Roberto Clemente Park, spanning 25 acres along the Harlem River in the Bronx, New York City, stands as a premier urban green space that artfully combines recreational, cultural, and waterfront experiences. Originally opened in 1973 as Harlem River State Park, it was the first New York state park situated in an urban environment. Renamed in 1974 in honor of Roberto Clemente, the celebrated Latino-American baseball legend, the park offers visitors a rich blend of amenities such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool complex, basketball courts, ball fields, picnic areas, playgrounds suitable for children of all ages, and a scenic promenade along the river. The park’s multipurpose recreation building hosts diverse programs throughout the year catered to youth, adults, seniors, and even the physically challenged, fostering inclusive community engagement. It has a large grassy field that is the outfield for the kickball/ softball/baseball diamond. After visiting Wynwood art district we were able to go into the field here, lay out s tarp, and spray paint some canvases of our own. The kids really got a kick of doing their own art after seeing the walls.

I went to Roberto Clemente park for a Puerto Rican culture celebration. It was hosted by O,Miami. Miami Freedom Project was also there encouraging people to take action. I signed up for the Civics Club and am looking forward to getting to know more like-minded people in the area. I had some yummy arroz con gandules. Bookleggers was also there! I was able to pick up a copy of Roberto Clemente’s story, a book which was very recently banned in Miami schools. The hosts encouraged us to gift that book to a child to keep the Puerto Rican history alive. Power 96 hosted a Bad Bunny Look Alike Contest and it was sooooo fun! The winner must’ve practiced in the mirror all day hahaha Maybe he’s just good at impersonations. Regardless, he was veeeery convincing 😂 There was a station where visitors could make paper. It was a lot of fun learning how to do this. In the pics you’ll find a quick note on said paper ((: Everything was beautiful! Thank you, thank you, thank you, y que Diosito los bendiga 🥹

I went durning a quiet time, so I enjoyed the park with no people. The park has a baseball diamond, basketball courts, restrooms, and a playground for kids. I enjoyed my stay, just wished it had more trees. The best thing about this park is the background, you have some nice looking buildings as your background. So I recommend this place to play basketball and enjoy the background.
