Very nice ride. Unlike what we thought there is not much to do once you get to the island itself. There’s a nice walk overlooking the water and a small lighthouse at the end of the island. It was like a 35 min walk and then they have free buses that you can use to get back to the tram station. Not many places to shop or eat but the tram ride itself is a nice experience. Beautiful view!

Really neat experience, but if you are going for the view like I was, the bridge blocks most anything downtown. It also doesn’t go very high or for very long. If you can accept those factors, it’s a really neat way to see the city and visit Roosevelt Island. There is a subway line close by if you want to only go one way like I did and then continue on somewhere further

Short but fun ride to Roosevelt Island. We went late morning on a Friday, and it was very crowded. And the trams dont come too frequently. The view is wonderful. Being able to use our OMNY card was convenient as well. As of August 2025, there is no vending machine for OMNY cards at this station. Only for metro cards. We had barely enough left on our cards to get to the island, so we just went to the subway station on the island, reloaded the cards there, and then took the tram back to Manhattan. The station was very close to the tram station on the Roosevelt Island. Roosevelt island was beautiful, and the view of of the Manhattan skyline was beautiful. There are a lot of benches where you can sit down and just enjoy peaceful moments away from the Manhattan crowds.

Cool family-friendly activity off the beaten path with spectacular views! The ride costs $2.90 one way and both Metrocard and regular credit cards are accepted. The ride itself only takes a few minutes. Kids usually love it! Beware: at times, the tram gets insanely packed, in a classic sardine can type of way, which can get excruciatingly disguising very quickly on a hot summer day!
