The Santa Fe Valley Staging Area is a moderately sized gravel parking lot designed to accommodate cars, SUVs, and pick-up trucks. It may not be suitable for truck and horse trailer combinations. This staging area serves as an access point for both the Del Dios Gorge Trail and the Santa Fe Valley Trail, which are integral parts of the San Dieguito River Park’s Coast to Crest Trail system. The staging area features a kiosk that, during my visit, was stocked with paper maps. However, the staging area lacks trash receptacles and restrooms. There is a portable toilet available in the small parking lot located at the east end of the Del Dios Gorge Trail.

There’s a small little parking area for cars no Porta potty or restroom area at this location although I think depending on where you pick up this path, you might find it. This one was nice and that it has pretty decently groomed paths, although rocks, loose rocks, and uneven terrain exist so if you are unsteady in your walk or your run, you might want to try a different area of this trail

We walked thr south trail first and ran into a rattlesnake, so we turned around and walked the north trail that goes to Lake Hodges next and ran into another rattlesnake. It's that time of season again, so be mindful! Thank goodness for the work crew who gave our new friend Mark a stick to help move the one snake.

Nice urban hike. Difficult to find the start of the trail. But a nice view after an easy slight elevation gain. You get to see the back of the hodges dam
