I’ve been a member for a few months, things to consider if you are interested in this studio specifically: - Firing schedule is consistent. - Staff is friendly and quick to respond. - Lots of classes and workshops available. - Space is relatively clean, although logistically could be better set-up. Cleaning schedule seems to overlap with busier days so you end up feeling like you’re in someone’s way. - No member shelves, you can rent lockers for added cost. Kind of reduces the feel of “community”. - Very basic supplies are available, but could be better maintained. Clay options are limited. - Plenty of brush glazes, the dip glaze situation could be improved - the test tiles aren’t great, and missing in some cases. Consistency and success varies greatly. Overall a great space if you are looking to grow your skills.

The staff here are very friendly! They keep the studio clean and firing on a consistent schedule. The 24-hour access is a real game changer – it's hard to imagine going back to another studio that doesn't give me the flexibility to come in and throw whenever I want. Not having to rush out the door allows me to relax and enjoy the meditative process of pottery. The studio is continually improving, adding new classes, and responsive to members. I highly recommend checking out the barrel and raku firings (only available at the moment through the sibling Redmond studio) as they are quite special and a lot of fun.

This studio is where I vicariously live my fantasy as a full time potter with the wonderful comfort of community. It is the other of my two favorite studios in Seattle. It’s practical and flexible, delightfully organized and streamlined and reliably managed and maintained. It’s the perfect place to hone your craft or goof off with clay, *regardless* of experience level. Let’s break it down. 1. You’ve got 24/7 studio access. Let that sink in. There is no studio in Seattle (that I know of, unto this day) that provides this *indisputable* blessing. Think about it. Carving out a minimum of 2 hrs (excl. clean up time) in a busy schedule is hard, but aligning with a studios’ limited “opening hours” is a secretarial nightmare. The fact that I can hit the wheel at 11PM is the closest I’ve gotten to having a personal pottery studio, and there’s nothing quite like throwing in a studio all to yourself. 2. Firing schedules are *on point*. These studio kilns are always firing something. But it’s not just bisque or glaze firings, there are also luster/low firings and even holds *regular* rake/barrel firings (done elsewhere)! It’s also awfully convenient when the staff posts pictures of what came out of a firing too. This has saved me many studio trips. 3. Throw as big as you want. The greenware shelves are modular to accommodate any piece size, AND they'll fire it too! (I’ve yet to run into a situation where a piece is *too* big). 4. Space is limited, but there are options. You can't store your tools, bags of clay, or bisqueware at the studio unless you rent a cubby hole or a locker, but even with unlimited hours + storage rent the cost is still more affordable than the other monthly studio membership rates. Space is always a premium in community studios, especially in Seattle. 5. Diverse and friendly community. Say hello to your friendly neighborhood potter and strike up a conversation. It's fun and communal, bantering about life or our ceramic craft. From beginning potters to seasoned artists, the members here have a shared enthusiasm for ceramics, and I’m often inspired to try new things because of them. 6. Last but not least, this studio is *growing*. It's part of a network of studios and, believe it or not, works beautifully. The staff is responsive to the needs and feedback of the community and they act on them! For example, they renovated the flooring to make clean up easy. They expanded to the adjacent building to separate classes from the member space. They got us a Whisper wheel for those of us (like me) that throw mega giant clay loads (20 lbs+)!!! OMG. I love this studio. I *moved* for this studio. And this place keeps getting better and better. I’m counting down the theoretical number of new studio openings it’ll take for us to see freight shipments from Tacoma Clay Art Center. (That place is capital D — DREAMY…. and catastrophic to my wallet.) TL;DR - Studio has all the essentials with convenience in spades. This place (and its other satellite locations) accommodates any schedule and a wide range of ceramic styles. The community is rad. The staff is supportive, responsive, and action-oriented. The studio is filled with plants.
