Why Sloop Tavern is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family

Sloop Tavern stands out as a quintessential Seattle dive bar with a unique maritime charm, making it an ideal spot to gather with friends. Since 1976, under the ownership of Wayne Schmidt, it has combined the relaxed atmosphere of a dive bar with the spirited culture of yachting, reflective of its proximity to the famed Ballard Locks. The tavern's interior is a cozy blend of bric-a-brac and Christmas lights that create an inviting, laid-back setting. A prominent fisherman mural and a classic neon sign make the Sloop Tavern instantly recognizable. Its nautical theme extends beyond decor — the venue hosts the Sloop Tavern Yacht Club, a welcoming boating club for all, notable for its accessible membership and active participation in local races. Friends can enjoy the tavern's signature 34-ounce "Slooper" beers, which offer hearty pour sizes at affordable prices. The menu complements this with hearty, old-school pub fare, including handmade fish and chips, burgers, and crispy fries, catering especially to those who appreciate sizeable portions. A fun, local place. The drinks were cheap and the food looked good. We had great service from the bartender (I think her name was Cindy). She was very friendly and outgoing. The bar was also dog friendly and had pool tables. If back in the area, we would definitely visit again.

The food here is really quite good and also good value, consistently so. The onion rings are especially great. Vibes and atmosphere are like a neighborhood bar, not all that divey to be honest. Everyone's chill, and there are darts and a pool table along with a jukebox.

Great dive bar with great service! Food is average and cheap! Oh yeah and a great price on beer! I’ve been going to The Sloop for years and years. One of my favorite spots in Ballard to grab a quick beer and eats. Dog friendly and they have a small area for outside seating when the sun is out. Darts and pool too!
