Seattle and West Seattle in particular have so many amazing places to enjoy the daily spectacle of the sun dropping below the horizon but Solstice Park is one of the best. Whether you are packing pb&js and juice boxes to get the kids out for some fresh air or swinging by the Morgan Junction Thriftway to hit up their deli and grab a bottle of wine for a date it’s hard to lose by coming here to picnic at sunset. Bring a blanket and a flashlight. The Rapid Ride C has a stop conveniently located at the bottom of the hill by the tennis courts.

Simple little park with a great vista and ideal for watching the sunsets, especially on the days the park was designed for (solstice & equinox). For the stargazers out there, fair warning: this little gem would have been a gem indeed with the western sky open completely in all its glory and the park being open till 1130pm however, the tennis courts below shine spotlights into your eyes and provide enough light pollution to spoil the spot entirely. If you thought this park was the ideal spot because it's late hours and open sky, think again. Go someplace else and save your time and effort.

Not a particularly breathtaking place most of the time but I imagine it takes on a much more magical glint during the solstice which it is named after. Not very well maintained despite being near much larger Lincoln Park and being in affluent West Seattle. If you're looking for an unassuming yet nice place to sneak away this is absolutely a perfect place. Should it be a bit cooler to live up to the name? Yep.
