Trying to play volleyball here is a bit of a hassle. The facility itself is nice, but the team there could use more clarity. I’ve called several, if not all, recreational centers in the county, and only a handful can accommodate volleyball courts—Sorenson being one of them. They claim to operate on a first-come, first-serve basis, but there have been several times when we’ve tried to play volleyball, only to find the courts unavailable due to various excuses. Today was particularly frustrating. I called in to confirm whether the city had any scheduled in the small or large gym for the next day. Ryan told me they weren’t but advised calling two hours before our desired time to double-check. He also said they’d set up the nets for us. However, it’s always a gamble with Sorenson. The next day, I called back two hours before the time we wanted to play, only to be told it was “last minute” and that they were short-staffed. Milena, who said she’s the supervisor, told me there was nothing they could do to accommodate us. That’s especially frustrating because organizing a volleyball game takes effort—getting at least eight people to confirm is no small task. Edit: Luke (program manager) you’re amazing! After I emailed him, he made sure to start an “open gym” for volleyball. Thank you so much for addressing our concerns!!! It’s been great. I really wish the communication here was better. It’s disappointing when the lack of organization ruins plans that require so much effort to coordinate. The pros are that for the most part, the facility is really nice and it’s only $2/per person to play.
