Nice hike but quite smelly. The trail itself isn’t too long or too hard and there are some pretty nice views along the way. However towards the end of the hike there is a waste treatment centre which is pretty smelly. There was an odor alert by the centre / beach. It’s a shame really.

This is a fun hiking trail, but I can not give a full 5 stars because it is not well-maintained. There were some beautiful stairs and bridges but if you aren't careful, it is easy to trip and fall. The views are stunning, but I only recommend going on a dry day as any sort of rain could be hazardous.

You'll need to make your way part way down the Loop Trail to get here, and there's good signage to point out which fork to take. The trail has some stairs and steeper sections, but overall it's still easy to moderate. It follows the beach for a short ways before ending at the lighthouse. Note that it gets pretty windy along the water.

This trail was better a decade ago. It got muddy too often and steps along the way are now hard to get up by erosion. Dangerous when wet. Better to avoid and take the paved roadway going to beach if wanted to.

What should groups prepare for when visiting South Beach Trail?

Since the area can be quite windy and foggy at times, especially near the coast, dressing in layers and bringing windbreakers or light rain gear is advisable. Footwear should be sturdy for hiking along rocky or sandy sections, and sunscreen and hats are necessary for sun protection during clearer weather. Packing water and snacks is important, as picnic areas and dining options are limited in the immediate vicinity. Since the trail and beach are popular, early arrival can help secure parking and ensure your group can settle comfortably. Also, respecting the environment is vital; groups should follow Leave No Trace principles by carrying out all waste to preserve the beach’s pristine condition.
