Challenging but beautiful hike – not for beginners I did the full loop at Fortuna Mountain, starting from the west side, heading north, and descending through the south via the Stairway to Heaven. The views are absolutely stunning and rewarding, but this trail is not easy. Expect steep climbs and steep descents, especially on the southern section. The Stairway to Heaven in particular is very steep and rocky, and going down can be dangerous if you’re not prepared. This is a trail for people with good physical condition and no fear of heights. Make sure to wear proper hiking shoes, I didn’t, and I definitely felt it. I recommend South Fortuna overall, but whichever entrance you take, be ready for a very deep and intense hike. Do it right and safely, it’s worth it, but it’s not casual

The South Fortuna Mountain and Fortuna Saddle Loop is a solid, rewarding hike with a great mix of climbs, views, and a little challenge. I did this loop on a hot day, so definitely plan for early morning or cooler weather—the heat can be intense with very little shade throughout the trail. I started the loop by going left at the trailhead, which means you descend the infamous stairs instead of climbing them. That definitely made it easier on the lungs, but the steep, rocky descent was a bit rough on the knees. Trekking poles would be helpful here if you have sensitive joints. The trail is well-marked, with steady elevation gains, wide open views, and a mix of single-track and wider fire roads. While it’s not a heavily trafficked trail—I didn’t see too many people—you still feel safe and connected enough in case you need help. There is parking at the trailhead, and it wasn’t crowded when I arrived. The loop makes for a great workout and offers beautiful panoramic views from the top, making the effort well worth it.

This gorgeous view is of South Fortuna. It’s a moderate hike with multiple trails around it so make sure you follow your map, bring lots of water, there was some scrambling on top and a little walk on the saddle to get on the summit. But getting to top is fulfilling , I saw some young kids doing it as a family so ya, gauge your abilities and see if this is something for your family and friends ☺️

South Fortuna Summit is a rewarding hike with steep stairs, rocky trails, and stunning views. The climb challenges your legs, but the panoramic scenery at the top makes it all worth it. Great for a solid workout and a peaceful escape into nature.

Standing at the summit of a mountain, overlooking endless landscapes, is truly inspiring. One side of the mountain offers a gradual, peaceful ascent, while the other features a steep slope and a narrow trail. When I reached the edge, I could see tiny people and cars below. The trail is amazing, and it's both physically demanding and visually stunning. Be sure to bring plenty of water and wear proper hiking boots.
