Why Starfire Golf Club is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family

Starfire Golf Club, located in north central Scottsdale, Arizona, is a welcoming 27-hole golf facility well-known for its affordability and user-friendly environment. Designed by legendary architect Arnold Palmer along with Ed Seay and Robert Walker, the course offers an 18-hole, par-70 layout stretching 6,106 yards that caters to golfers of all skill levels. The course's Bermuda grass fairways and greens, along with mature eucalyptus, pine, and cottonwood trees, provide a scenic and pleasant golfing experience year-round. The golf club occupies the historic site of the original Scottsdale Country Club and features a newly designated King Course, which is a combination of the former King and South nines. Starfire also caters to beginners and families with its shorter Mulligan 9-hole par-28 course, ideal for warm-ups and casual play. Beyond golf, the club offers a driving range, putting and chipping areas, and the Starfire Grille restaurant serving fresh American dishes. Its central location on Hayden Road makes it easily accessible, and the club’s friendly, knowledgeable staff contributes to its inviting atmosphere, making it a great place to meet up with friends, enjoy a round of golf, and even host events like tournaments and weddings.

Updated review: I’ve played this course for about 4 years on the regular. It used to be amazing value. Over the past 8 months this course has seen a rapid decline. Dirt fairways. Hairy greens. Trash everywhere. Sad because the location and layout of the course is actually pretty fun. I’m not sure what the new owners are doing. People that I played with weekly here have moved on to other courses in town and I’ll be doing the same

Don’t play here unless you like hitting off of mud. Been coming here for 10 years, staff is great, but they just went through new ownership and the course condition is terrible. Worst I’ve ever seen it. Take your money to other nearby courses.

Course condition is OK. Surely can find better course in the area. Tee off at 750am, and we were at hole #8 by 915am, and the golf marshall told us that we played way too slow and needed to pick up the speed. With 4 some ( with 2 beginners), we finished front 9 in less than 2 hours. In addition, we also let a solo behind us to play through. Never come back to this course.

I have played this course over the last 10 years quite a bit. But the last two or three years it has been going downhill. I took my wife to play it on Sunday and got to the first tea. There was a three group back up. The pace of play was absolutely horrible. It took us three hours to play the front nine.. We ended up quitting at whole 15. The condition of the course is even worse you had a nice drive down the middle of the fairway and you met with dirt. Then when you do get to the greens, there’s mud everywhere.. I will not be golfing this course again nor will I recommend it.

I recently played a round at your course and can honestly say it was the worst golfing experience I’ve had in Scottsdale. The front nine is completely unplayable, there is zero grass on the fairways, just dirt being overwatered into thick mud. This is not a temporary condition; it’s clear the course is neglected and run down, and it should not be open to the public in this state. We paid over $60 each to golf on what can only be described as a construction site. At check-in, no one mentioned the condition of the course. There was no notice on the website, and the pro shop attendant didn’t say a word. When we asked to speak with the Director of Golf, we were told he was “unavailable,” and no one else could speak on behalf of the course. That’s completely unprofessional. On top of that, there was blaring music at 6:20 AM outside the clubhouse, totally ruining any sense of a peaceful, early tee time. The staff seemed indifferent at best, this place is being run by a group of kids who clearly don’t care about the guest experience or course conditions. This is not a golf course, it’s a hack job. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy a round. If you want to ruin your day and waste your money, then by all means, give it a shot. But for anyone who values playable conditions, honesty, and a basic level of professionalism, look elsewhere. Scottsdale has far better options, this one doesn’t even deserve to be on the map. Can I give something lower than a 1 star?
