Sadly I have to update my review as the State Fair of Texas has gone downhill over the years. To start off with this location is not easy to get to especially during the fair timing. Access to and from the area can be very convoluted and congested with no traffic guidance and poor streets in and out. You cannot visibly see the fair from the main roads you can see the rides above the buildings but not the actual entries itself. Parking is horrible and overpriced. Accessible parking is almost never available and when they do have it available it is usually full of non-accessible parkers for other permitted uses such as livestock etc. Accessible parking is almost always not actually accessible and is further away than most of the other parking spots reserved for folks that are able. It is very rarely accessible friendly both in walking distance and smoothness and ramp access. Parking security is also poor and they have break-ins routinely. Security at the location is horrible and they routinely let weapons through. Just last year somebody brought in an illegal firearm as a convicted felon and shot someone at the park. They tout that they have boosted security this year however all they did was remove the lawful ability for citizens to carry. The person that shot someone last year wasn't even legally allowed to have the weapon. Not only that their security last year didn't catch that person bringing the weapon in. Even though they had thorough screening according to them. Food is overpriced and the pricing system is convoluted intentionally to get you to overspend. Coupons are not valued at the same as dollar values as they used to be. When they do match up to dollar values at times you still have overpayment of things quite a bit due to the markup. They make excuses as to why but having worked internal to the State Fair of Texas that is all a lie. Overall I would not recommend attending the State Fair of Texas especially with this year with the decreased safety given that you will have far less aware and alert individuals watching for things. If it was a safe as they claim then the law enforcement officers would have been able to prevent the issues that occurred last year. No amount of officers or security screening measures will stop a situation if they don't have as many capable folks available to handle it as possible. The area State Fair of Texas is in is very high in crime and I do not recommend traveling to this area.
