When asking yourself about something to do near me in Scottsdale with a group of friends or family, consider
Sugar Bowl

Why Sugar Bowl is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
Sugar Bowl comprises two distinct business types praised by different communities: the Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Sugar Bowl Resort in Norden, California. The Ice Cream Parlor offers a nostalgic atmosphere in Old Town Scottsdale that makes it a charming spot to meet up with friends, especially for lovers of candy, cookies, cakes, and ice cream. Patrons enjoy the vintage feel, highlighted by longtime employees like Ricky, whose friendly and engaging personality elevates the experience and creates a welcoming environment reminiscent of the 'good old days.' Meanwhile, Sugar Bowl Resort in Northern California stands out as a premier mountain destination for skiing and snowboarding. Skiers appreciate the resort’s small lines, reasonable ticket prices, and excellent terrain across four major peaks, making it an ideal meeting place for friends seeking both adventure and relaxation. The convenient location of lodges near chairlifts, ample parking and drop-off zones, and appealing amenities, such as well-regarded eateries like the Judah Lodge with its highly recommended noodle bowls, further enhance its appeal. Together, these venues provide unique and friendly atmospheres for social gatherings, whether over a sweet treat or on snowy slopes.
Here's what people think of Sugar Bowl
As of recent, Sugar Bowl holds a 4.5-star rating based on 4229 reviews.
Reviewers of the Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor generally highlight its nostalgic and charming atmosphere, with many praising the friendly staff and the quality of ice cream sundaes. One particular staff member, Ricky, is frequently mentioned for his personable nature and memorable service, contributing significantly to the positive experiences. However, some guests have criticized the food menu as being outdated and the quality of some dishes, like the tuna salad, as bland and unappetizing, leading to disappointment with the dining aspect rather than the dessert offerings. On the other hand, Sugar Bowl Resort receives strong praise from skiers and snowboarders for its well-maintained slopes, minimal lines even during busy periods, and affordability relative to the quality of skiing offered. The resort’s lodges provide comfortable and scenic resting spots, with food options appreciated especially at Judah Lodge. Employee reviews at the resort suggest it is generally a positive workplace with decent pay and a fun environment, although some mention challenges with housing and colleague reliability. The combined feedback indicates that while both Sugar Bowl locations have room for improvement, they are valued destinations for visitors seeking either nostalgic confectioneries or excellent ski experiences. The positives, particularly community atmosphere and unique experiences, tend to outweigh negatives in most reviews.

Stepping into The Sugar Bowl is like stepping back in time in the best way possible. This charming little gem in Scottsdale has been around for decades, and it's easy to see why it's still going strong. The pink aesthetic is absolutely adorable – from the striped walls to the nostalgic decor, it feels like you're dining inside a vintage postcard. The framed photos of the original soda fountain setup add a nice historical touch and give you a real sense of the place's legacy. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even sweeter. The food was great – I had some classic tea sandwiches that were fresh and tasty, and we couldn’t resist trying one of their sundaes. It was everything you'd want from an old-fashioned ice cream treat: rich, creamy, and topped with the perfect cherry. And don’t miss the arcade in the back! It’s such a fun, unexpected addition – full of retro games that kids and adults alike will enjoy. Whether you're a local or just visiting Old Town Scottsdale, The Sugar Bowl is definitely worth a stop. It's not just a meal – it's a full experience packed with nostalgia, flavor, and charm.

I had never been to this place before, and upon entering, saw only a bunch of sugar raging ( very loud ) kids inside. You have to wait to be seated by a hostess. I was still having doubts about this place while looking at the menu & the prices. I ended up ordering myself a vanilla shake. And OH BOY! I LOVED IT VERY MUCH!! This place has the absolutely best ice cream in the entire valley. Do not miss this place. You will not be sorry if you go here. Wonderful staff and location. I would even say it is a jewel of Scottsdale, and the entire Valley of the Sun.

The Sugar Bowl is a must of you are visiting Old Town Scottsdale. We went in the evening on a Friday night. I had the Tin Roof Sunday, and my wife had the Golden Nugget!! They were both delicious! The atmosphere is very much old school, and it will hit the nostalgic vibes. The staff was very kind and efficient. Don't forget to buy a coffee much for the collection in the way out.
