I've been training at the Taoist Studies Institute since 2018, and it has completely transformed my life. Under Shifu ZhiCheng's guidance, l've learned sitting, standing, walking, and lying down meditation, Taiji, Qigong, and practical Taoist psychology. These teachings have not only helped me release physical tension--already life-changing on its own--but have also deepened my understanding of the mind-body connection and how to move through stuck emotional and mental patterns. What sets Shifu ZhiCheng apart is his ability to meet each student exactly where they are, guiding them toward profound insights experientially, not just intellectually. Through his mastery of internal cultivation and transmission, l've realized that life can be incredibly simple when we stop carrying unnecessary baggage. Because of this school, I'm a healthier person with better relationships and a more genuine version of myself. I truly wish everyone in the world could access these teachings. On top of his skill, Shifu ZhiCheng is also the most inspirational person l've ever met--his dedication to these arts is so deep that he even founded a monastery for full-time training. To say this school is 5/5 stars is an understatement. If you're looking for authentic internal cultivation, there is no better place.

The covid crisis was a time of isolation and loss for many of us. However, a tremendous goodness came into my life at that same time. Like many schools, Taoist Studies Institute had begun offering their weekly classes on-line. I had been reading their class announcements for several years but now I could attend classes without an eight hundred mile drive! More importantly, TSI was offering the many classes that comprise the Chen-style Xinyi Hunyuan Taijiquan system developed by Grandmaster Feng Zhi Qiang. I had studied and practiced this curriculum with Master Zhang Xue Xin for many years so these teachings are close to my heart. After my teacher's retirement and return to China I had continued various studies but had not found a primary teacher of the Hun Yuan system. How grateful I was to be able to tune in to the teaching of Mo Zhi Cheng, another of grandmaster's disciples, and continue the journey. With the internal martial arts as the focus for most of his lifetime, he is a master teacher with vast knowledge, profound wisdom, deep personal cultivation and artistic mastery. I always look forward to his classes which include - the quiet, guided series of daily practices, dynamic demonstrations of the weapons forms, his observations of and experiences with Feng Zhi Qiang, stories of masters from ancient times, references to the physical principles of childhood toys and how they are evidenced in our movement practices, readings from Taoist scriptures and Grandmaster's writings, every tiny detail and aspect of the open hand forms... and his way of receiving students' "thank you"s at the close of class. I had missed a significant amount of learning opportunities when I was unable to attend some classes years ago. These studies have helped affirm my practice, fill in gaps, enrich and adjust my understanding and reignite my love of this cultivation --- all within a mutually supportive, good-hearted community Shoko Zama also offers classes, occasionally. I found her teaching of Snake Turtle Qigong to be skillful and the practice to be relaxing and energizing. One of my favorite special courses offered was entitled "Nourishing the Genuine". It was an inspiring series of classes - and the title summarizes the overall intent at TSI. "That's the plan! " * Gratitude *

I have studied taiji and qigong at TSI for many years. Zhi Cheng has a wealth of knowledge and skill and is a natural teacher (he also has a kind sense of humor). I consistently learn new things from Zhi Cheng about the movement practice and so many other aspects of life. Shoko and Pau are also fantastic teachers, each with their own unique skills and knowledge to impart. The school has been a big part of my life and I am very grateful to all the teachers and those who have dedicated so much time volunteering and otherwise supporting the school.

Excellent learning experience. Classes provide the full Chen style, Hunyuan System of taiji from beginner to advanced and support these classes with an adjunct curriculum of other internal martial arts disciplines such as Bagua Zhang and Xinyiquan. Wellness forms of Hunyuan System Qigong. Instruction is presented with clarity and patience. TSI has a welcoming, inclusive and supportive community of students. The space is large and comfortable, very suitable for movement classes. My experience with TSI has been very rewarding for over 13 years and I look forward to my continued association with the organization and the community.

I've been studying with Harrison (Zhi Cheng) since 1982. The Tai Chi and Qigong classes have greatly enhanced my life and I've met many wonderful people at TSI over the years. I would recommend his classes to beginners who wish to find out what this is all about.
