{{{I’d give ZERO STARS, if at all humanly possible!!!!}}} So I was in this store earlier today. As I was ready to check out, the clerk, who identified himself as Charles to the "customer" (Andrea) he was busily flirting with, obviously would have much preferred continuing to chat her up. I’m quite certain that he viewed actually having to do his job of ringing up my purchases as extremely inconvenient! Anyway, once he was able to tear himself away from her (since she left), I wanted to buy two scratch-off lottery tickets in addition to the one-liter bottle of Coke that I’d obtained from the cooler. When he rang me up for the one-liter bottle of Coke, a $2 scratch-off lottery ticket, and a $1 scratch-off lottery ticket, the check-out display revealed that I’d been charged 16 cents sales tax!!! Bottles of pop ARE *NOT* TAXED in the state of Michigan, and neither are lottery tickets, even though Charles insisted that so-called “specialty” items, like the bottle of Coke that I was attempting to purchase, were subject to being taxed. There was nothing specialty about the pop that I wanted to buy — it was simply an ordinary plastic bottle of Coke Classic. But even if it was actually true that the item was taxable, the Coke rang up at $2.99, supposedly pre-tax. Sales tax in the state of Michigan is 6%, so if that item was in fact taxable, then it would have been an additional 18 cents added to the total, NOT 16 cents!!! And the bottle deposit for one bottle of pop in this state is 10 cents, which is a BOTTLE DEPOSIT, not a sales tax charge. (Also, I was paying cash, so there was no possible additional fee that they could’ve legitimately attempted to tack on there, like they do when someone pays by credit or debit card.) Nothing that I was attempting to purchase was even remotely taxable. He clearly stated his disbelief about how he couldn’t understand how I was “arguing over a few cents…” Well, I wasn’t arguing, and it was the principle of the matter. I absolutely, positively REFUSE to be overcharged!!!! And I definitely didn’t appreciate his implication that I was some sort of cheapskate or something!!! So I said thanks, but no thanks, and started walking out the door. Then he very loudly complained about how much that I’d WASTED HIS TIME!!!! Well, excuse me for not allowing this shady store to rip me off, even if it was "only a few cents"!!! And there were no other customers in the store anyway! Besides, he’s paid to take care of customers — not to be severely deficient in providing even a tiny bit of decent customer service!!!!! Charles, you’re desperately in need of a customer service crash course, in order to properly educate yourself on how to interact with customers appropriately!!!! (And that’s certainly *not* how you treated me, to say the least!!!!!!!!!) All in all, this is a lousy place to shop!!!!!! I highly recommend that people shop elsewhere — anywhere but here!!!!!!!!!!

I really like the Beer Depot as a source for beer. The selection is tremendous, with lots of local beers and ales, lots of beers from smaller breweries around the US, and a good variety of international beers. The wine selection is a little weak, but then again, it's the Beer Depot, not the wine and beer depot. It's also conveniently located right in town. It has a micro parking area, which has always been adequate for me (that is, I've always been able to find a spot). I have not explored their selection of liquors. It seems OK.
