The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse is breathtakingly beautiful! The food was great as was the service. I enjoyed the Spicy Indonesian Peanut Noodles. It was very busy despite going on a weekday for lunch, so recommend getting a reservation beforehand. There was a ton of seating both outside and inside. Tea time here is such a magical setting. Highly recommend! The building has so much history and the construction of it down to the details are just incredible. The afternoon tea highlight was the tea! The food wasn’t out of this world, but the service and atmosphere was. Lemon scone and the carrot cake were the only items that stood out. The rest needs a little more love. I also had the Full Moon Spice tea that I loved! It had almonds and was a more bitter but very full tea!

Wow! It’s hard to find a place in the US with truly excellent afternoon tea service—but this spot is just about perfect! We visited on Wednesday July 16, 2025. The building itself—a stunning gift from Dushanbe, Tajikistan—is gorgeous and nestled perfectly into downtown Boulder. Every visual detail was attended to with care and the craftsmanship/artistry is unparalleled. As for food, we had two vegetarians and three non-vegetarian. The only difference between them was that the veg came with hummus crostini instead of chicken salad crostini. All our non veg folks wished they’d ordered veg! We ordered three different teas: Supreme Earl Grey, Lady Grey, and chai. The supreme was extremely sharp, but the other two were so good that they may have ruined us forever for any other tea. ❤️ Our server kept calling the jam, cream, and lemon curd the “sauces,” which felt really off to me. Maybe “toppings” is better? But otherwise she was warm and attentive. Of note: Twice, I saw the hostess go out of her way to help other customers and I was super impressed with her. My one food complaint was the “Devonshire cream” had a distinctly yogurty flavor that ruined it. True Devonshire/clotted cream does not include fermentation; it is nuttier and richer. Boulder Dushanbe Tea House had been on my list for quite some time, primarily for its stunning decor, history and the variety of teas it offers. The decor features lush plants and fountains, giving it a very calm and serene look. The vibe is great, making it a lovely place to relax. From an experience and ambience perspective, it’s a beautiful spot worth visiting. However, as a teahouse, it falls short, the teas were underwhelming and far from what I expected. We tried the Malaysian Sambal Curry, which had great flavors and was a definite hit. The Spicy Indonesian Peanut Noodles, however, leaned too much on the sweeter side and lacked any spice. As excited as we were to try their teas, we were left disappointed. They were weak, lacked body and had very little tea leaves. My friend’s tea was quite literally just boiled water with little to no flavor. We also tried a milk-based tea, London Fog, which was also average at best, nothing special. On a brighter note, we did enjoy our dessert, the Mocha Tortoni Mousse, which was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, this place is a mixed bag. If you are visiting Boulder, it’s worth checking out for the ambience and the food, but don’t expect much from the teas.
