Beautiful and peaceful. Whether you're Catholic or not, one can't help but admire the beauty and serenity of this location. Even with the occasional sirens of Portland's finest sounding within the city, The Grotto is a site where one can let loose the shackles of this world, even if for a moment. I recommend anyone driving through Portland to take a few moments to stop by and take it in, if even to just stretch the legs. The only tickets you need are to take the elevator up to the top level of the grounds where there is sprawling gardens, walkways, and Marian shrines. You won't forget it.

We rented a transport wheel chair at Beaverton pharmacy to bring a friend with mobility issues. If you want to do that, I recommend a more robust chair. The pathways are a bit uneven, but we were able to navigate well, and other visitors were beyond kind, helping us navigate the ramps and elevator. The church is gorgeous and welcoming. Staff members, some of whom live on grounds, are so hospitable and spiritual. It was deeply moving to receive their warm welcome regardless of denomination. This is a wonderful choice for a jubilee pilgrimage church! The art along the pathways is so beautiful. Many types of plants and trees are lovely and fresh, it is cool under the branches. We even saw tad poles! I hope to come again soon. I recommend arriving by 10:30 so you can visit the gift shop to buy mementos and candles then go to 11:00 am confession and have them blessed at the same time. I think mass is at noon.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place. We went on a Monday afternoon, there weren't too many people there. They gave us a little token to enter the upper garden. But the big shrine is accessible for free. So many beautiful plants and sculptures throughout. I'm not a very religious person, but still can appreciate the thought and beauty that's put into this place. Highly recommend.

A place of peace, prayer and natural beauty located in the 62 acres of forest in Portland city. Like a spiritual oasis, you feel the serenity of this place once you step in. There are many saint’s scriptures and benches around the corners for you to sit, relax, meditate and pray. Highly recommend to come here for the fresh air physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Unlike places with rushed table service, The Grotto's system empowers guests to order at the bar, allowing them to mingle and find their spot with ease before settling in for the meal. This informal ordering style minimizes wait times and lets groups customize their experience around their rhythm, which can be crucial for dynamic groups with varied arrival times.

What makes The Grotto stand out compared to other meet-up venues?

Several factors distinguish The Grotto from other venues, especially when it comes to hosting gatherings with friends or family. First, its reputation for food quality combined with a beachfront location puts it in a rare category of spots that satisfy both the palate and the spirit. Unlike typical restaurants that might feel cramped or generic, The Grotto provides a unique scenic charm that resonates with visitors looking for meaningful social experiences.

Another standout is the balance between structure and informality. While it does not offer traditional table service—orders are placed at the bar, and food is delivered to your table—this method encourages a laid-back atmosphere that suits groups who prefer flexibility and interaction over formal dining protocols. This approach allows group members to come and go freely, order at their own pace, and share different dishes effortlessly. The overall vibe is one of casual friendliness, well-suited to both casual day outings and celebratory evenings.

Additionally, the variety of menu options ensures wide appeal. Whether your group includes vegetarians, seafood lovers, or pizza aficionados, the diverse choices allow everyone to find dishes that please their tastes, reducing any food-related stress in planning large-group meals. This thoughtful menu curation complements the venue’s inclusive, easygoing spirit.

Finally, the strong positive feedback and high rating underscore that The Grotto not only meets but consistently exceeds expectations. Groups repeatedly mention that the combination of scenery, food, and service creates memorable moments that make their gatherings special. This consistency of experience, with occasional caveats, strengthens confidence in choosing The Grotto as a dependable and delightful meetup destination.

This flexibility suits friends and families who prefer to be spontaneous or who want to enjoy a casual day without the pressure of strict booking policies.

The venue caters well to different group sizes by offering a range of seating configurations, from intimate tables to larger clusters. This adaptability allows groups of friends or family to feel comfortable whether they come in small or large numbers. The outdoor seating option also expands capacity and offers a different vibe for those wanting to enjoy fresh air and views, which is especially appreciated during warmer months or special occasions.

For guests with accessibility needs, The Grotto’s setup on the ground level and open design typically allow easy access, though checking in advance for specific accommodations is advisable.
