This place is about the atmosphere. They have a bar, pool tables, and chess you can play. Small menu, but the chicken sandwich with slaw on it was good. Good place for a quick affordable lunch. Not sure what happens at night there, but I'm guessing that's the best time to go. It seems like the type of place that has lots of regulars. I wouldn't mind checking it out at night, if I lived in Austin.

This place used to be a favorite of mine. I live in the neighborhood and have come here many times over the past seven years. During my last visit yesterday, I experienced something that was confusing and completely unexpected. My fiance and I walked up having a great day, all smiles with our pups. He made friends with some guys smoking out front and casually threw a can in the trash can they have out front specifically for customers to throw away their previous drinks, like every other bar that exists. Apparently they have a new policy where you're not allowed inside the bar if you've had even one drink before arrival. The door guy refused us entry due to throwing away one can. I've never been treated like that in Austin before, and will unfortunately never return to one of my former favorite places. Y'all should be more careful about who you have representing your business. To be turned away like trash from a shitty dive bar whose bathroom doors don't even lock properly is severely disappointing. We've brought so many people here and recommended this place and Yellowjacket (same owner) to so many. Never again. This place is not worth it. We used to come here for the cheap drinks, good food, and friendly atmosphere. The atmosphere is now exclusive and shitty to people who actually live here in Austin. Locals should definitely not come here, it's not the same.

Today we decided to try a new place, and as soon as we got there, I loved the ambiance of The Little Darlin’. My husband and I were there with our two boys, ages 17 & 20. They both ordered chicken and waffles, the portion was small for $16, but they really enjoyed it. My husband and I decided to share the ‘cheese’ plate, to say that this was a disappointment is an understatement. The cheese plate had exactly 2 pieces of cheese, and a Camembert type of dip. My husband’s Bloody Mary had more cheese than the cheese plate! The bread was delicious, but I was still so disappointed with the amount of cheese on the plate. The fries saved us, they were delicious. Do not order the cheese plate if you expect to eat cheese.

The vibe has changed here a lot in the almost 10 years I’ve been in Austin, but the food has been reliably good the entire time I’ve been going here. The food is shockingly good for a backyard bar. Can’t go wrong. The environment is nice, but it’s mostly outdoor seating so go at your own risk if the weather is poor. They have a large draught selection, and make their own liquor infusions. I think this spot hits every mark it aims for.
