Let’s start by noting that the area is really bad. It’s a very poor neighborhood with just a sense of depression surrounding it. However, this place is so good that u should just brave a train ride to Pulaski, walk over (don’t talk to anyone and ignore the people sleeping on the street) to the ordering window, order the food, eat it there or on the train ride home. These guys would be worth 3 Michelin stars, worth the detour. Also the portions are super generous and the price is very cheap.

Stopped by The Original Maxwell Street for a quick lunch and was impressed. Grabbed a Maxwell Street Polish with fries—sausage had that perfect snap, grilled onions added a nice touch, and the fries were crispy. Service was quick, and the staff was friendly. It's a no-frills spot with a lot of history and flavor. Definitely a go-to for a solid, affordable meal in the area.

The Original Maxwell Street is a Chicago staple, and I’m glad it was recommended to me when I first moved here. The food is exactly what you want after a night out—greasy, flavorful, and hits every craving. Open late, which makes it clutch after the club or bar. Staff is always friendly and keeps the line moving, even when it’s busy. The area can feel a little sketchy at night, so just be mindful of your surroundings. That said, I’ve never had any issues and it’s always been a solid experience. Definitely one of those spots that delivers on taste and keeps you coming back. A true late-night gem.
