Fun spot for trivia, but the crowd management could use serious improvement. We’ve had a table reserved each week, yet the same group keeps trying to crowd in—even after being told no multiple times. Last time, they claimed to be a party of 2, then showed up 7 deep and forced us into the corner. It’s frustrating, and it happens often. People also don’t hesitate to sneak looks at other teams’ answers, which takes the fun out of it. The venue would really benefit from more small tables to accommodate the turnout and avoid these situations. That said, the service is excellent—Marco is always friendly and on top of everything. The deviled eggs and masala tots are especially worth ordering.

This is a classic pub that we hangout with friends on a Friday night. The dart is great to enjoy. Most of the time, the place is very crowded and you might need to wait in the line. But like any great place, this is normal and it is worth waiting a bit to get our drinks. It is location wise very close to the other pubs and clubs so you can have your first drinks here then jump somewhere near. Happy to know this amazing pub💯

This is a very authentic and nice American bar. You will find there is anything you need. Outside sitting is nicely in the shadow or even if you like it in the sun. They have a good variety of different beers.

Maybe the best classic pub in Palo Alto, generally full of tech-geeks and/or Stanford affiliates. Great place to meet friends or have informal meetings - around holidays, can be a little bit overcrowded.

Fish sandwich was epic today! Added some cheese so it was filet o fish style. The fish was golden brown on the outside and flaky inside. The tots were crispy and the tarter sauce was tangy and creamy. There was even a special sauce that had boots on bc it was kicking so much ass 😂

What should groups know before visiting The Rose & Crown?

While The Rose & Crown offers an outstanding communal atmosphere and enjoyable culinary experience, groups should consider a few practical details before visiting. The restaurant does have a lively and sometimes loud ambiance typical of a bustling pub, which can be exhilarating for some but distracting for others seeking a quiet or intimate setting. Seating near the bar tends to be noisier, so groups preferring calmer surroundings should request tables away from that area. The layout sometimes features closely spaced tables, which might feel a bit cramped for larger-sized groups or if privacy is desired. Restroom access requires passing through the bar area, which can become inconvenient when the bar is crowded. Menu options have been noted to have shrunk in recent times, with fewer entrees available, so groups with very picky eaters or those expecting extensive menus might want to review offerings in advance. Despite these considerations, the overall quality of food, service, and unique perks—like exclusive fireworks viewing—more than compensate, making it a valuable venue for group gatherings.

Traditional offerings such as fish and chips, bangers and mash, Scotch eggs, and sticky toffee pudding combine to provide hearty comfort food ideal for sharing after a day of activities. Adult guests can enjoy a wide range of alcoholic beverages, including unique beer blends and specialty cocktails, which enhance social dining. For those interested, sampler flights allow groups to taste and compare different beers together, elevating the communal dining experience. Children are also considered, with menu options that include child-friendly dishes and fun themed cups or light-up drink cubes, helping keep young ones engaged and happy. While some diners feel the menu is more limited than before, the quality remains solid with well-seasoned and properly cooked meals. This mix of classic flavors and drink variety ensures groups can enjoy both food and drinks in an atmosphere that encourages sharing and lively conversation.
