A great dive bar/club with awesome music—I highly recommend it for a celebration or just a fun Friday night dance spot. The night we went, they had two rooms: one with a Daft Punk tribute featuring two DJs actually dressed like Daft Punk, spinning their music for a solid two hours. The other room had a Strokes tribute, so the DJ was playing early 2000s alternative rock—super fun and totally danceable. It’s located in East Hollywood, right in the heart of hipster territory, so no need to get too dressed up. The crowd is chill, and the vibe is very relaxed. Drinks weren’t too expensive and were definitely strong—so tread lightly! Overall, such a fun night. I’ll absolutely be back.

Bartender Armando was awesome and gave us excellent service. Drinks were delicious. The dj also had such an amazing vibe, and it was a fun Friday night dancing. It was my first time at this location, and I definitely will be back. But maybe I'll take a Lyft because finding parking took about 20 minutes.

First timer last Saturday for a dual DJ theme night and was everything I hoped it would be. Didnt take long to realize I was not in Kansas (i.e. OC) anymore and that was exactly what I was looking for. All OC bars have become clones of each other all with bad Djs playing the same old rap songs you've heard a million times along with idiot F boys with bad hair cuts and rediculous neck chains. anyway, back to the Virgile. The size of the venue was perfect, not too big, not too small. The atmoshere was phanominal. Dark but with perfect lighting to make it cozy. Felt like I was in a 3D movie. Well organized by blocking space in front of the bar so you didn't have to fight through a sea of D bags to get a drink (like in OC). Crowd was definitely mixed but everyone was respectful and you felt free to be yourself. Already looking at the event calendar for my next visit. Will be back for sure. Note: The outside looks like an abandoned building and the area is sketch, but nice sketch for Hollywood area. There are 2 rooms, one larger than the other but I preferred the smaller room for the cool bar area.

Came here to see Block Scholars perform, and was surprised by a whole Hip Hop show properly promoted with merch booths, good sound quality, a full bar, and dance hall on the other side. Cool venue, professional doorman, and nice bathroom that were clean and nicely designed.

Great spot, love the nights, ambience, and djs. However, the drinks are like $20 each and lowkey watered down. I would go a lot more if it was more reasonably priced. Everything else is spectacular. I’ve been at least 5 times. Three stars because everything rocks but I dont go cause the drinks are so expensive.

This simplicity makes it easy for guests to feel relaxed and engaged rather than overwhelmed by flashy decor or complicated layouts. Having two designated rooms with their own DJs and dance floors means that the energy flows naturally and diversely, catering to different moods as the night unfolds. What should groups know about practical aspects like location, service, and costs?
Groups planning a night out at The Virgil should be aware of a few practical details to make their experience as smooth as possible. The location in East Hollywood places it in a lively neighborhood known for its nightlife, which makes it accessible and part of a broader social scene. However, parking can be somewhat challenging at times, so groups might consider ride-share options to avoid stress before the night even begins. Service at The Virgil is generally friendly, though some reviews note variability in bar service speed, so a degree of patience is advised during busy hours. Drinks are well-made but lean toward the higher end in pricing, making it sensible for groups on a budget to pre-game before arrival or share rounds to keep costs manageable. The venue's operating hours mainly run late into the night on weekends, offering plenty of time for groups to enjoy the full nightlife experience. Knowing these practical considerations helps groups prepare adequately, ensuring that their night focuses on fun and connection rather than logistics.
How does The Virgil create a memorable social setting for diverse groups?
The Virgil’s ability to cater to a broad spectrum of nightlife tastes makes it especially memorable for groups with diverse preferences. By offering two rooms with different musical identities, it embraces diversity within a single venue. Friends who love hip hop can dance the night away on one side, while others drawn to a mix of genres and a more anarchic vibe can find their scene on the other. This kind of inclusive environment means no one feels left out, a common problem when groups try to agree on a single venue. The venue’s unassuming yet charismatic ambience levels the playing field for guests from all walks of life to mingle and enjoy themselves freely. Interactive features like the photobooth add to the sense of a collective happening, while the nearby food vendor provides casual after-hours dining that keeps the good time going. The Virgil’s blend of accessibility, music diversity, and communal spirit encapsulates what makes it an extraordinary venue for groups seeking memorable, high-energy social outings.
What makes The Virgil stand out among Los Angeles nightlife options?
Within the vast and competitive nightlife landscape of Los Angeles, The Virgil stands out for its authentic, no-frills approach combined with a commitment to great music and community vibe. While many venues chase elaborate themed decor or exclusive exclusivity, The Virgil embraces simplicity, focusing on delivering solid dance floors, interesting DJs, and an environment where people can just be themselves. This authenticity resonates especially well with groups that want a relaxed but engaging night without the pressure of dress codes or expensive cover charges. The dual-room concept also differentiates The Virgil by offering variety under one roof, capturing the essence of LA’s diverse music culture. Its reputation as a hidden gem bolstered by local loyalty means it maintains a lively but comfortable atmosphere unlike some crowded or tourist-driven hotspots. For groups, that means an accessible yet vibrant venue where the spirit of connection, music, and fun is the main event—making The Virgil a prime choice in the city’s bustling bar and club scene.
What can guests expect in terms of crowd and social dynamics?
The social dynamics at The Virgil are a key part of its charm, attracting a mix of locals and visitors who come looking for fun and an open vibe. On a typical night, especially weekends, you can expect a lively crowd energized by the music flowing in the two distinct rooms. This setup allows groups to interact with different types of audiences and even make new connections if they feel like it. The crowd tends to be diverse in age and style but unified by their appreciation for music and dancing, creating an inclusive environment that welcomes everyone. While the bar carries a casual, unpretentious air, the collective energy is high, making it perfect for groups who want a buzzing yet comfortable social setting. Interactive elements like the photobooth and the outdoor food vendor complement this lively atmosphere, rounding out a full night of social and shared experiences.
What should groups consider to make the most out of their visit?
To maximize enjoyment at The Virgil, groups should plan a few key details ahead of time. Arriving early can help secure better spots close to the dance floor and make entry smoother, especially on busy weekend nights. Considering the drink prices, pre-gaming at home or nearby can be a cost-effective strategy without sacrificing the night’s fun. Since parking may be limited, ride-sharing or public transit can alleviate stress and allow everyone to focus on enjoying themselves. Because the venue has two different musical atmospheres, groups should decide if they want to stick together or explore separately to cater to varying tastes within the party. Bringing a positive and open mindset will enrich everyone’s experience, as the vibe at The Virgil thrives on collective good energy and respect for diverse musical preferences. Keeping these tips in mind helps ensure that every group’s outing here is both memorable and hassle-free.
