A wonderful gem in the heart of south Austin! I just did my first Write Now class with Claire. So much clarity and purposeful writing! She really used the time wisely and effectively lead the workshop to invite new ideas and write with intention. Erin was also really supportive. The group of writers attending were strangers at first but toward the end I felt a sense of peace and calm within the group of being right where we're supposed to be and feeling more present with the writing experience. We worked individually but felt a sense of community and inclusion. So nice to be around fellow women writers! A great space too, physically inviting and nurtures a creative environment. Bethany has done a great job designing the space and making it welcoming, special and sacred. (there are Buddha statues everywhere!) It's such a unique environment and I'm happy to be part of it. Looking forward to more workshops, write-ins, and retreats. A beautiful place and unique experience, Check out their Porchlight podcast too :) very insightful, funny and helpful tips! Thanks Bethany and The Writing Barn for being a wonderful resource in our community!

We rented space at The Writing Barn for our small family reunion and couldn't have been happier. Plenty of space and rental options, cold A/C, great service and communication. If you're having a small event, I recommend renting some space here ASAP. I know it's primarily function is a writing retreat but it's so versatile and welcoming for other needs as well.

This lovely writing barn is world renowned by famous authors as a place to come and write, while taking a break from the rest of society. I'm not a talented author, but i was still able to have a great time and i fit right in! My class went here on a field trip, and the first thing that we saw was two deer running around in the trees! The property was so beautiful. There were plants and bluebonnets everywhere, fairy lights hung in the trees, and gorgeous cabins for rent, although we didn’t go inside or rent them out. When we got inside, we partook in writing profiles for one another and debate! (Plus, i got ten votes on the debate so I’m feeling -pretty good-). The speakers there were extremely passionate. The energy was upbeat and inspiring, and you could tell they really listen when you talk to them or ask them questions. They also offered us a writing camp over the summer! It sounds lovely and I would go but it’s a bit pricey for me. I wish i could have gotten pictures of this place because of its beautiful loft, porch, scenery, and lovely decor! However, though, they don’t typically allow phones inside to enable the freeing experience to truly happen. Needless to say, I enjoyed my visit here quite a bit!

I've been back to the barn for two events now. One with author Sara Pennypacker, the other with illustrator Melissa Sweet. Both were full depth explorations into craft. Informative and inspiring. Going to the barn for me is also about building relationships with other writers, illustrators and people in the Children's Book industry. Great online offerings, as well.

I took a memoir writing class in fall 2019 and was really disappointed by the quality of the class. The class was advertised as a beginner/intermediate course but was not a welcoming or friendly environment to beginners at all. The class always started late, took way too long of breaks, and was filled with unrelated time-fillers and fluff. I dropped out of the class early and asked for a refund because the course was very expensive. The staff wrote me back that they'd get back to me later with their decision, but never did, which I found very unprofessional. I would definitely recommend avoiding this place.
