Tourmaline Surf Park is a San Diego gem, blending surf history, scenic beauty, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Established in the 1960s, this spot was one of the first dedicated surf parks in California, created specifically for longboarders and mellow wave riders. It has remained a beloved local surf break ever since, known for its gentle, rolling waves and friendly lineup. The beach itself is beautiful and uncrowded, with plenty of rocky tide pools, soft sand, and stunning ocean views. Whether you’re here to surf, watch the waves, or just soak up the laid-back vibe, it’s a perfect escape from the busier San Diego beaches. The parking lot fills up quickly, but if you find a spot, it’s a great place to hang out, chat with friendly locals, and take in the sunset. For anyone looking to experience classic Southern California surf culture, Tourmaline is a must-visit. It’s not about high-performance surfing—it’s about the flow, the community, and the simple joy of being in the water. Whether you’re a longboarder, a beginner, or just someone who loves watching surfers glide along the waves, this place never disappoints!

Great beach away from the usual tourist crowd with parking and restrooms. You can come and watch the surfers do their thing in the afternoon (or early morning if you're that type of person).

Great park to come and hang out and surf or just walk around. Everyone is friendly and wasn’t too busy when I went. Definitely come if in the area!

This place is awesome. There's a nice public restroom to rinse off at after surfing and lots of parking (on weekdays). The waves are well formed and beginner friendly. As a kook I found it much easier to surf here than at Pacific Beach. It's legal to light contained fires on the beach after sunset.

A wonderful place for who likes surfing. I went just for watching and it's pretty peaceful. Not a lot of sand to lay, but it's great if you want to read or just relax a bit.
