Why Two Flame Tango is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
Two Flame Tango is a unique dance school based primarily in Bountiful, Utah, specializing in teaching Argentine Tango — broadly celebrated as the "dance of love." Established by two artists passionate about simplifying and deepening the experience of movement, the school has been fostering a strong community of creative individuals for over three years since reopening post-pandemic. It offers a welcoming environment where dancers of all levels, from complete beginners to those with years of experience, can explore tango as an intimate dialogue through body language rather than flashy stage performances. The school focuses on artistic principles and somatic awareness, aiming to develop students’ personal and social skills via tango's rich physical and emotional expressions. Classes run in six-week sessions, emphasizing softness, high-level technique, and rediscovery of one’s natural ability to dance. Two Flame Tango also maintains a studio in Salt Lake City, although its Bountiful location is most popular among students. The school promotes tango not just as a dance but as a form of meditation and personal growth, comparing its rigors and spiritual depth to Zen Buddhism. This makes it an excellent place to meet friends who share a passion for artful movement and meaningful interpersonal connection.

What a great dance class with excellent instructors. We're only on our third visit, but I would highly recommend two flame tango to anyone looking for a great date night activity while learning to tango.

I was once a professional jazz musician and I have studied many types of dance over the past 7 years, including ballroom, bachata and salsa. What I love about Chris and Sofe is that they are genuinely dedicated to creating dancers, rather then just putting in an appearance and collecting class fees. You can probably feel how much they care about their students. There is a big difference between an expert, and a teacher. Chris is that rare combination of both. The best part of his classes is that he focuses not only on technique, but on helping you find the groove in the music, and also the groove in your own physical movements. I am fascinated by the silence pause in Tango, where it feels like you express volumes as you remain motionless between two beats. Chris has helped me rediscover music through my body, and I am grateful. I could not recommend him more highly.

Two Flame Tango teaches far more than steps. Tango is complex and not like ballroom. We’ve learned dynamics of movement and how to work well with a partner, not to just lead or be led, but to dynamically enable our partners while treating them with respect. With Two Flame I’ve found Tango to be challenging and intriguing but also great fun. Christopher and Sofe are gems.

What social and cultural benefits can groups expect at Two Flame Tango?

The dance has been compared to Flamenco for its sensual slow pace, creating a deeply engaging emotional and aesthetic experience. This cultural immersion can be a powerful shared journey, making meetups not just fun but also meaningful and memorable. Participants often discover aspects of themselves and each other through the subtle, nonverbal communication tango demands, which can strengthen friendships and create lasting bonds. This approach ensures that everyone benefits from the classes, no matter their starting point. Classes are designed to progressively build skills and knowledge through a six-week format, which provides ample time for participants to absorb new moves and refine their technique in a supportive environment. The creative director describes tango as a dance you can keep learning from for a lifetime, so the studio encourages ongoing growth and curiosity rather than a quick “one-and-done” lesson. This makes the studio ideal for groups because individuals can progress at their own pace while sharing the experience together. Those who want to advance can pursue more nuanced styles within Argentine Tango, while newcomers feel no pressure and can enjoy the social and fun aspects of the dance.
