Great trail to walk and the landscape is amazing. Even the drive in was beautiful. There is a visitors center and it has a few kid friendly activities, but overall I would just go straight for a hiking.

Umstead park is a really nice little park close to downtown Raleigh. Quite easy to get to, multiple parking lots and a visitor center with clean bathrooms. It can get muddy if you go near a day it just rained. So bring a towel if you have a dog. The trail itself is very easy and great for any athletic or non athletic individual Takes about 1 hr round trip.
