Solid gym! Currently a second-year law student who's been using the gym for the past two years. I've been lifting for a long time, and have been in gyms across the country. I only have two complaints. First, the gym's rules about wearing shoes for deadlifting are without scientific merit regarding safety, motivated by liability-reducing soulessness, and make for uncomfortable, tense situations between staff and experienced athletes who KNOW what is and is not safe for their bodies when performing a particular exercise. Second, the rule about bags. I take less of an issue with this part, mostly because I suspect it is motivated by compliance with the Fire Code. Nonetheless, the No Bags rule has resulted in people having to carry small piles of belongings (phone, airpod case, water bottle, lifting straps/wraps, belt, towel, squat shoes, and more) between equipment... creating an environment that is not only almost certainly worse in any Fire Marshall's eyes, but that is also inconvenient. Both of these rules have the added suckery of added time spent by each person at each station, creating an even more packed, uncomfortable, and potentially unsafe environment. In conclusion, this gym rocks as far as its equipment, staff, and provisions; however, management forcing student staff to confront members so as to enforce rules that are unreasonable and problematic is lame.
