I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. This was an amazing experience! My boyfriend and I did this, as he's wanted to go sailing for years and I though this would be a good chance to experience what it's like to be on a sailboat in a safe and fun environment. Communicating with Andy was really easy and he was always quick to answer e-mails and took care to think of a good route for us. They had snacks and beverages available and the sailing itself was wonderful, even though we went in the cold months, they even had coats and gloves for us! Kris and Andy were accommodating as well extremely kind and fun to talk to. We spent a half day on their lovely sailboat Upbeat and the time just flew by; Andy also took some great pictures of us. Wonderful experience with wonderful people!

The Upbeat is a beautifully maintained, comfortable vessel that offered plenty of space for our total group of 5 passengers. The boat offers a spacious cabin and generous galley area below that is definitely well-equipped for anyone on a day sail. Topside, the space was just as generous with comfortable seating that provided sufficient protection from weather or wind should one want it, and the bow area had lots of space where groups could certainly lounge and enjoy the view and weather. The true strength of booking with Upbeat Sailing lay in the crew and service. Captain Andy and his wife provided one of the absolute best, casual, and comfortable sailing experiences we've had the pleasure to enjoy. Being the owners and crew, the entire experience with Upbeat is completely individualized and personal. The Upbeat can be whatever you wanted as far as sailing experience goes. Even as a casual sailor, you could throw your hand in to assist as much or as little as you wanted. There was never an issue of wondering what you can end up with, because Captain Andy, as he admits himself, tends to educate and provide as much information as he can to you. When you're working with the unpredictability of weather and have a sail scheduled, information is the best thing to ease any and all concerns, and Captain Andy absolutely helped to assure we had the best experience for a sail. The service is genuine and honest, and it really felt like we were enjoying a sail crewed by good friends. I highly recommend Upbeat for anyone looking for a great sailing experience in the PNW and look forward to another sail with them in the future to explore even more of the area.

We couldn’t have been happier with our experience. Captain Andy was exceptional with providing information and asking questions to clarify our expectations prior to sailing day. Onboard, Captain Andy and Kris gave us the choice of kicking back or participating. We ended up doing both at different times and they seemed to perfectly sense when we wanted to get involved and when we wanted to be left alone and just watch the water slide by. They patiently answered my son’s endless questions, continually engaged in conversation with him, and treated him to an experience he will never forget. It is amazing when you can watch your 11 year old child smile continuously for the entire day. Just go out for a sail with them ... you will be glad you did.

Words can't express our experiences with Kris and Andy. Andy's communication is excellent. I planned a surprise half day excursion for my husband's birthday and Andy promptly and easily worked through my planning/questions. He sends a detailed preparation email, ensuring a seamless check-in and day on the sound. His pricing is appropriate, which is hard to say for the Seattle area, since everything from bread to air seems expensive here. Needless to say, if you have any questions or concerns, simply ask. Once on the sailboat, you'll see how nice it is. Clean and has everything you need. It has two bathrooms! The icing on the cake is the snacks that Kris provides. We've been on board for my birthday last year and my husband's this year. Each year she purchase the most delicious halibut dip; ate every drop. They also have non-alcoholic drinks. In addition, you can bring your own food, snacks and/or drinks. Andy and Kris recommend involvement from their guest when sailing, anchoring, steering, watching the speed, etc. However, it's not a requirement. The first time my husband and I were very hands on and the second we enjoyed the moment while relaxing together on the front of the boat, with a bottle of wine. Note: This is a sailboat and if there's no wind then you'll use the motor. Andy can't control the weather, so please adjust your expectations accordingly. Regardless, they'll give you the best experience you hoped for (which is obvious based on the reviews)! Also note that the sound is pretty cold year round; so swimming is recommended only with wetsuits.
