This was our first time in the area and we were thrilled to be able to get VIP tickets for the blues fest! We will definitely come again, the event was well-organized and VIP seating was worth it (seats in the shade, front row standing areas, exclusive bar and port-a-potties for VIP section, free water for the day in the tent so we could refill our water bottles. The venue and musicians were fabulous!

This year, 2023 was my third year going to the annual Portland Blues Festival. I only attended one day and as usual, was happy with the music and venue although the heat was pretty intense. Rick Estrin & The Nightcats were great. I love Blues music and feel fortunate to have the one of the largest Blues Festival so close to where I live.

I visited the Waterfront Blues Festival on the 4th of July, and it was an amazing experience! The event was full of energy, super crowded, and lots of fun. The fireworks over the Willamette River were absolutely stunning and added a magical touch to the evening. Unfortunately, my pet Milo Pu Pu was a bit scared of the fireworks and nudged me to head home early, so I couldn’t stay as long as I wanted. Still, I truly enjoyed the time I spent there. I usually visit this park almost every weekend, and I love the atmosphere. I’ll definitely keep coming back whenever there’s an event!

Still an amazing festival, but I had a miserable time on July 5th. It wasn't really about the weather at 99 degrees, or a $12 slice of cheese pizza burned black on the bottom. It was three significant self-owns by festival management that have me rethinking attending this event in the future. 1) Who decided that the festival couldn't afford the canopy over the dance floor at the Front Porch stage? Even on an 80 degree day the sun is too intense. In the middle of the day, that stage was dead. 2) The amps on the main stages were so loud that the Crossroads stage was effectively drowned out by loud party sounds. Honestly, for those who do not want to turn into broiled lobsters in the bowl or have an interest in more intimate performances, WBF no longer has anything to offer. 3) The "no outside food" policy instituted this year added insult to injury. I can understand not supporting family picnics. But not allowing sandwiches and personal-sized containers of home cooked food? The overpriced festival food leans heavily towards the unhealthy side of the ledger. Let those who do not appreciate the convenience or selection bring their own snacks to keep fueled for a long day under the broiling sun. Very good line-up this year with a lot of variety. After adjusting my approach on the 7th things look better to me (except the too-hot weather). Front Porch was lively with Zydeco and Cajun. A few people risked heat exhaustion by dancing on the uncovered dance floor. Next year I will evaluate carefully before committing a whole weekend to the Waterfront Blues Festival. I really hope it can stay relevant and well attended, however I wonder if a change in format to something more intimate is needed. I'm giving 2 stars to the venue and 5 stars to the musicians.
