For anyone in their improv/performance journey, I hope this helps. I've taken classes at every improv school in LA. WE Improv is without a doubt the BEST improv school in LA based on curriculum, price, class sizes, reps, stage time, and community. 1. Well-designed, fun curriculum (with mnemonics and visual learning aids) encouraging team play and high-percentage moves 2. Small class sizes (usually 8 students) and hands down best value in terms of reps per hours/dollar 3. Each class includes multiple opportunities to perform live in front of an audience. No other improv school offers anything close as far as show opportunities/stage time. 4. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, Jake has done an incredible job fostering a community. In 2022, prior to joining WE, I had 17 shows under my belt. In 2023, I performed 77 shows, in large part due to WE class shows, the friends I made and teams we formed from WE classes, and from other WE friends asking us to play their shows. Simply put, WE has the best value, culture, and track record of getting students ready for the stage.

I love We Improv! The way they teach is easy to absorb and breaks things down so they are not complicated. The teachers are welcoming and inclusive. You get to do lots of reps i.e. scenes so you get to put what you learn into lots of practice. You also get to perform a lot which makes you better at performing. The classes are super affordable as well. I've taken classes at other schools and this is one of absolute favorites. Highly recommended.

This openness fosters a warm community spirit that welcomes people from all walks of life to come together through improv. The small group sizes in classes enhance bonding and help participants establish trust and camaraderie quickly—essential elements for successful improv. The high-rep exercises used in their curriculum build skills in spontaneity and collaboration, valuable tools for both onstage performance and real-world interaction. For groups of friends, this creates a safe space to experiment, take creative risks, and support each other. For families, it offers a playful, interactive environment conducive to fun and shared discovery. Plus, the weekly shows are always free to attend, which means groups can drop in, enjoy high-quality performances, and decide at their leisure if they want to engage further through classes or team residencies.
How does the experience at WE Improv compare to other improv venues or entertainment options? Unlike large, commercial comedy clubs where audience interaction is limited and parking or entrance fees may be a concern, WE Improv emphasizes community-building and accessibility. Its educational approach distinguishes it from venues that prioritize stand-up comedy or big-name acts. While other improv theaters often have auditions and rigid structures, WE’s no-audition policy makes it uniquely welcoming for newcomers and groups wanting a relaxed, no-pressure environment. The focus on long-form improv also contrasts with venues that rely on short sets or scripted shows—offering a nuanced, immersive experience that deepens group engagement. Moreover, the free weekly performances eliminate typical cost barriers, making WE Improv an excellent choice for budget-conscious groups seeking quality entertainment. This combination of affordability, community orientation, and creative empowerment makes WE Improv especially suited for friends and families looking for more than just a night out but rather a shared, memorable cultural activity.
What should groups keep in mind when planning their visit to WE Improv? It’s advisable to consider the nature of the event you want—whether attending a performance or participating in classes—so you can best align your plans. Since classes are kept intentionally small, early registration is recommended to secure spots if learning together is the goal. For shows, arriving early guarantees good seating in the cozy space, maximizing your ability to enjoy the performance fully. The venue’s basement location off Franklin Avenue gives it a tucked-away charm, but it’s worth checking transportation and parking options in advance to ensure a smooth arrival. Groups should also be prepared for an informal, interactive experience where audience participation might be encouraged, adding to the fun and unpredictability that makes improv so special.
