For bat viewing you can stage either north or south of the bridge, on the east side. People were also lined on top of the bridge, looking down, but that was in full sun. There are boat rides you can book as well.

While bridge itself is mostly unremarkable in terms of design, it offers some of the most scenic views in the city. One of the primary motivations for visits is the nightly emergence of the thousands of bats that call the bridge and the area around it, home. Worth noting that our visit was in early November, and despite the crowds both on the bridge and in the water, there were no bats to be seen that night. Apparently The later sunsets in the summer time are a much better time to watch this spectacle.

I think it’s a must do in Austin. Very impressive, even if I was under the bridge and saw the bats coming out I won’t recommend to observe them from there, or at your own risk as you may feel some small droplets all over yourself !
