The Austin Clubhouse isn't just a mental health organization. Lives are changed and lives are saved. I have been a member for over 11 years and have nothing but positive things to say about this place. The staff are my friends, but the members are my family. I would do anything for these members in a heart beat. So many great memories fill my head. I love being here anytime I could. I enjoy meeting members, and telling them "You Are Not Alone." Which I am incredibly fortune to be a part of the most talented group of people. Singers, writers, actors, instrumentalists, etc... Over 1700 members in many, many countries. If you want to be at a place where you feel accepted, where you feel a sense of belonging, purpose, community and family, this is it. I realized one of the staff members and I are cousins through our 8th great grandfather. I literally have family here. There's nothing more than I can ask for. I don't understand anybody leaving a negative review, because in my opinion, this place has made me very happy to save two members from ending it all. I would hate to think about what would happen, if I weren't a member to help them live. This is a special place to me, and will always be close to my heart. I can go on forever, but we would have the world's longest review.-SJL

MY FELLOW MENTAL HEALTH SUFFERING FAMILY: Allow me to give u an inside experience of the clubhouse from a longtime member and someone who knows mental illness from personal experience more than I wish I ever had to. This place has some positives but in my opinion, they are more full of crap, than what they would ever own up to. For starters these people have little to no understanding of what mental illness even is. The staff have no real training and are in some ways like glorified baby sitters. As another reviewer stated these are disingenuous and sanctimonious people. They would be much better off saying they are a mental health advocacy group than a mental health service. They claim you need a diagnosis and need to be getting treatment to be a member. However then they revised it saying you can self diagnose yourself, which anyone with a real illness is very likely not able to really do. Some of the members do not even have any diagnosable condition but maybe some mixture of struggling with personal insecurities, bored and without friends, or just needing somewhere to go. Thats perfectly fine but those things can be a far cry from having any diagnosable condition. I give the clubhouse credit for being a community place where people can gather but the support they can offer is very limited. Whats more likely to occur is they will get you to do chores in the clubhouse under the guise of volunteering. The staff here do next to nothing as is and try and get the members to take on tasks that they should be responsible for. John Micheal is a sorry excuse for a leader and feel him being the head of a mental health organization is akin to the blind leading the blind. Then they cherry pick who has the most compelling back story to try and advertise to secure funding and portray themselves as far better than what actually goes on there. They fill their days with a lot of redundant meetings and superficial busy work that really has really little benefit to anyone whom is experiencing any suffering. I dont wanna say that they dont do any good but not just nearly as much as what they would think and would want the outside observer to perceive. I take no joy in speaking bad upon this place but rather wish to give a heads up to any potential members and anyone who is considering funding them. Im an individual who this place should be aimed at servicing and felt my mental wellbeing was jeopardized more than enriched by any involvement there. Hopefully your experience is better than mine, but ive given a fair warning of some things to be aware of. 1love
