You can't beat the prices of the Recycled Reads Bookstore with any other thrift store in Austin! The entire store ranges from $0.25 to $2, including movies and board games! The store is setup and looks just like a library, and you'll find many old library books with their old barcodes in the shop. Some of the selection is older but it is fun to browse, and you never know what treasure you may find. The best part is that the inventory is always changing, so it's a great place to revisit!

Awesome selection. This place is a real hidden gem. The employees here were awesome. I hope they get to keep the lease renewed. We were here for a few minutes and made a few friends. Also this place helps the library get rid of old books so the libraries are able to keep more recent and popular books.

Plenty of books. I bought four classics because those were easy to find through the huge variety. It is easy to get carried away buying when you see a title or author you recognize. If you come, have a list of authors you are interested in reading to make book hunting easier

I always find something good here, and you can’t beat the prices! The relaxing and friendly atmosphere makes this one of my regular weekend stops. Paperbacks are $1 and hardbacks are $2. They have an extensive children’s section, large print books, audiobooks, some games, and an area with books in many different languages. There is also a passport office here and they rent out tools and some miscellaneous equipment. Pictured are some of my best book hauls from here!

Although the store does not offer library services like printers, computers, or meeting rooms, its spacious layout indoors and welcoming atmosphere compensate by providing ample space for group browsing and interaction. While there is no formal arrangement for events or private group bookings, the friendly staff are accommodating and enthusiastic to help facilitate a positive experience for everyone. Visitors are encouraged to bring reusable bags for their finds, further supporting sustainability practices.

What are the best tips for making the most of your group visit?

To maximize your group’s visit to Recycled Reads, consider these practical tips. Arrive early on weekends when the store is open to ensure everyone has plenty of browsing time without feeling rushed. Encourage each person to bring a reusable bag or two to carry their finds, as many will likely want to stock up given the low prices and great variety. Organize your group into smaller pairs or trios to explore different sections—the kids’ corner, game area, and various book genres—then regroup to share discoveries and swap recommendations. Take advantage of the in-store games and children’s activity table to keep younger guests entertained while adults browse. Engage with the staff and volunteers to learn about new arrivals or special finds; their knowledge can enrich your visit.
