A must-rent photography studio in Arizona Hassan Rasul draws from his photography experience within Los Angeles to bring Arizona creators, filmmakers, photographers, and artists a space with unlimited potential. Supplying a myriad of lighting and equipment, it's a no-brainer booking. Show up with a vision and a camera, and rest assured, Blok Studio will supply the rest. Hassan was there at the start of the session to welcome us in and get all the final payment and paperwork settled. We got to chat about his ambitions for the studio and utilizing this space to create community. After that, he mentioned returning at the conclusion to walk us out and ensure everything went smoothly. The only other studio where I had that level of contact and care from the owners was Space One2One. I have attended Rachel Kaye Eblin's "Advanced Lighting" Class hosted at Blok Studio and was delighted by the space's versatility. I also have assisted photographers working out of their East Van Buren location. Both spaces are remarkable - a great mix of hospitable and studio space. I prefer the convenience of loading in at Pierce, as it is ground level. The Van Buren location has a set of stairs that you traverse to get to the studio. They are wide stairs, so I give credit compared to staircases at neighboring studios that are barely person-wide. Parking at Pierce is finicky, depending on the time of day. I would love to be corrected - I've had to park at the "Welcome Diner" both times I've been there because it just gets slammed on the weekends in that area. If there is an allocated parking lot that I am overlooking, please tell me! The Pierce space contains a restroom and a storage closet where all the included lighting, stands, sandbags, and other equipment (listed on their website) is stored. There is a massive cyc wall, a "bar-type" makeup table with four chairs, and next to it, a long wooden table with any information you could need, like their contact info and studio conduct rules. They have roll-down paper backdrops and a mobile wall that they painted a maroon-type color and, I think, brown if I remember correctly. The windows have covers, as do the skylights above the cyc wall if you need a blackout of lighting. There were probably 10 of us in the Pierce Space during Rachel's lighting course (between instructors, studio staff, and students). The space never felt crowded, tons of room for seating and movement through the space. I love now calling Blok Studio my "home" studio, and my clients and models are always "wow-ed" when entering the space at its organization and layout. It is evident there was a lot of intentionality and consideration of how artists interact with the space in its set up and I could not be more grateful for that. I will update this review with photos taken in the studio once edited!
