The staff and clients at Building Promise USA have become a second family to me since I moved to Austin last year. I started out as a client, looking for 2nd chance employers and then as an intern, getting my reentry peer support certification, and now I have started coming in as a volunteer, and I cherish every second. Even when I became part of contributing to resources I discovered while assisting my peers, the other staff continued to assist ME in finding the resources I needed to get my own apartment, which has been a huge blessing. The clients have been nothing but grateful and trusting and helping them gives me a sense of purpose. I admire each of the staff for their own, unique contributions, but I LOVE to watch Darla work her magic. She always ends her session with some motivating speech, which, simply put, conveys the message that Building Promise, well. .promises, that doors will finally start opening, where before they were closed and that you won't ever have to do it alone. As Darla says, "We will be your personal cheerleaders". It gives me goosebumps every time.

Their mission of empowering people who have been involved in the justice system to reclaim their lives through community, advocacy, and opportunity is not just a slogan—it’s a reality they bring to life every day. Building Promises USA is more than just an organization—it’s a true community of purpose-driven individuals who are deeply committed to uplifting those who are experiencing homelessness or transitioning from incarceration. Their compassion, dedication, and hands-on approach make a real and lasting impact. I want to especially recognize Darla, who has been a guiding light throughout my journey. Her support, kindness, and resourcefulness have truly changed my life. She didn’t just point me in the right direction—she walked with me. Thanks to Darla, I was able to get assistance with my rent during one of the most stressful times of my life, and she also helped me access the resources I needed to further my education. She made me feel seen, heard, and supported every step of the way. Building Promises USA is a testament to what can happen when people come together not just to offer help, but to truly build promises—promises of hope, second chances, and new beginnings. I’m beyond grateful for everything they’ve done for me and highly recommend anyone in need to reach out. You won’t find a more genuine or committed group of people.

This is an amazing organization, they really care about the people that they help. There is one particular lady that works for them named Darla she went above and beyond to help my son. Not only did she find jobs that was hiring at the time but she called them making sure they would hire my son with his criminal background and they did. She also got him food from another place in the building and helped him get signed up for food stamps. She was an outstanding and caring person and I will definitely remember her compassion towards my son when telling others about Building Promise
