I want to address a couple of negative comments here and share how Community Cycles has really been there for me and how the shop helps a lot of folks out so we can commute and ride year round. Unfortunately cycling has become really expensive in our society and this shop really helps with keeping cycling affordable. This not for profit organization exists to promote safe cycling in Boulder County. They don't do bike repairs and the staff is busy fulfilling their various missions through their many beneficial programs. If you want to look through an impressive selection of new and used parts this is the only place to do so anymore. Ask all the questions before you buy from this selection so you don't get the wrong part. If they sell you a part that has a no return policy than that is your problem if you have to return it, because you can't. If you're new to biking and have problems with basic bike maintenance than there are workshops for that. All of this is done to promote safe cycling in this area. If you want to fix your own bike and use the correct tools you may do so here. What else could you ask for in a bike co op? This is a great place to keep bikes on the road and if you understand what is offered and what is not offered you will get what you need here.

I have visited Community Cycles many times over the years to buy new and used parts - like tubes, tires, brake cables, wheels and a saddle, but also for DIY repairing. For a small fee, I can use their bike stands and pro tools to fix my bike with advice from their volunteers and employees. Last month, I replaced my mountain bike's entire drive train and cabling with generous oversight from John Barfield, whose regular job is getting donated bikes ready for sale. He is a master technician and was extremely patient with me as I fumbled my way through some complex repairs. He answered my questions and showed me how to get everything right with a very caring and kind attitude. John is a terrific ambassador for Community Cycles and for cycling in general, riding to work on his bike every day. I recommend anyone visit, especially for low-cost new tires!

Didn't have a great experience as an inexperienced bike owner. I needed to get the freewheel replaced and the staff told me I can buy the parts here and get it replaced at a bike shop as they don't do service here. The staff gave me a gear casette saying this will be the right fit for my bike. When I took it to the shop they told me my bike needs a freewheel and not a casette so I had to buy new parts again. Community cycles refused to accept the return. I had bought a new cassette and not a used one. I kind of get why they don't do returns but overall the place does not feel welcoming if you are inexperienced or don't know what you should be doing

Went in because I was recommended these guys could help me out with a few parts for my breaks (first time assembling a bike, and just needed a little guide to what I needed and what parts I was missing..then was going to go home and work on my bike myself) when I called, the lady on the phone sounded very bothered that I asked if they could help me out and said I needed to be a member but I can come in and they could check my bike out.. when I got there, the person up front asked me to bring my bike in. I did, and she set my bike on one of their stations and handed the “job” over to a mechanic, who seams as confused as I was…at the beginning he started to have me work on my bike, and I was even more confused since I was only there to find a few parts he also seamed frustrated and annoyed and proceed to tell me I really shouldn’t be in there since I didn’t have an appointment.. after I explained to him what I was actually there for he seamed more understanding to help me find the parts…but after all the confusion and also uncomfortable stairs and mocked side eyes from the other people that where there I just decided to leave and buy new breaks somewhere else…most unwelcoming feeling.

My husband and I purchased our mountainbikes here. We were looking for secondhand bikes and were surprised by the quality of the bikes that Community Cycles offered at affordable prices. They also gave tips about how to prevent your bike being stolen. Would recommend others that are in need of a bicycle to have a look at Community Cycles!
