The purge of decent Seattle businesses claims another victim. This place used to have delicious and reasonably priced donuts - but apparently have undergone some sort of corporate redesign since my last visit. You now get to pay higher prices for lower quality - yay! $18 for 6 stale, small donuts. Ugh. Save your money.

For the last several years I’ve ordered my wife custom donuts for her birthday. That was the perk of Donut Factory. Custom donuts, flat fee, and I could pick them up before I went to work! I went to do the same, and found the website was down. I reached out on instagram to hear that they’ve completely restructured their pricing. According to the messages I’ve received, I was encouraged to choose ONE flavor of donuts or face increased pricing. I inquired more and was told this change was for “efficiency.” It is a custom order…isn’t that why the flat fee is more than a regular donut? Isn’t a custom order not about efficiency at all but about care? So that people might buy more donuts for more occasions in their lives? I told the person behind the Instagram that I WAS still interested, and would need details about their flavors since the website was down, plus the follow up question about whether recipes were the same. I figured, I’d be willing to pay more for cost but not at the whim of guessing if recipes and quality would be the same! Needless to say, I haven’t heard back. My guess is that prices have rose, recipes have changed, and I won’t be getting any more custom donuts!

Overall a pretty middling experience. The place is to go only, so I got my donut and went to a bubble tea place across the street for somewhere to sit. The cashier was super nice, but the fruity pebbles donut I got tasted stale and was about on par with Walmart or Fred Meyer bakery offerings. The donut shop suffers from it's location, which really isn't the fault of the business itself, but the area around it is less than ideal and had a lot of broken glass. Spent around $3 for the donut.

This is the ONLY doughnut spot that I know stays open late during the week (til 9pm). There was a great selection of donuts available, even though I stopped by after 6p, but they weren't the freshest batch and I suppose that's the give. I'm not going to hold that against them though. I came in for the first time while on a random mission to find a new pod for my box mod vape. There is a gas station, 420 dispensary, vape/smoke shop and doughnut factory in this little business complex--the convenience is really unmatched. However, there is such a teeny parking lot that isn't the easiest to get into. There are only about 10 parking spots for this entire, wonderfully thoughtful, cluster of collaborative businesses--which is ridiculous. Couple that with an annoying population of riff-raff that just aimlessly walk around and that's why I couldn't give a 5 star rating. I still loved this place though and will definitely be back again.
