Candidate for “the best” Seattle park, tucked away on the east slope of Magnolia with sweeping views of the city and Elliot Bay. Nothing beats this on a Sunny day! Great playground areas, two picnic areas, two basketball hoops (half courts), lots of grass for sports, and a paved circular track for walking/riding.

Gorgeous view at this huge park. There are 3 different play structures, swings, and a basketball hoop. Plus a little loop for kids to ride their bikes around a wide grassy area. There was plenty of street parking on a Thursday afternoon, but I imagine it may fill up a bit on the weekend.

Fun little park on the south east side of Magnolia. Sweeping views of Queen Anne hill, some of Downtown Seattle and the port. Great place to watch 4th of July fireworks. You can see the top of the Space Needle from here as well. On clear days you can even see the snow topped Mount Rainier. They have several picnic tables, a few public grills, a few kids playground areas and a few basketball 1/2 courts. No parking lot, but there is street parking quite abundantly available. Near bus stops. No public restroom, but I have seen a few porta-potties there lately.

How does the park’s design contribute to its appeal for group gatherings?

Ella Bailey Park’s thoughtful design significantly enhances its suitability for groups seeking a comfortable and enjoyable outdoor environment. Renovated from a former asphalt school playground into a green urban oasis, the park makes excellent use of its modest 2.4-acre area. The picnic tables are well-placed for easy access and social interaction, encouraging meals and conversation in a relaxed setting. The park's boundaries, set in a quiet neighborhood and accessible via a dead-end street, create a peaceful environment free from heavy traffic noise and bustle. This separation from the city's intensity allows groups to focus on their gathering in a calm, safe space. Furthermore, the inclusion of amenities such as a porta-potty, although basic, adds convenience for longer visits. This context offers meetups a calm, intimate vibe that contrasts with busier urban parks often crowded with tourists or events. The local neighborhood streets provide generous parking, and the lack of through traffic creates a safe space for families and friends to gather. Additionally, nearby amenities like cafes, grocery stores, and shops enhance convenience for meetups, allowing guests to easily pick up any forgotten items or refreshments. The neighborhood’s tree-lined streets and well-maintained homes contribute to the overall aesthetic, making visits to the park feel like a pleasant retreat within the city. This blend of natural beauty and practical infrastructure makes it a hidden gem ideal for groups wanting both relaxation and engagement. The park provides a unique opportunity to impress visitors with spectacular views without the usual crowds seen at more famous city parks, thus offering an exclusive and memorable experience in a quiet location.

This visual mix appeals to a wide range of interests within any group, from nature lovers fascinated by Mount Rainier’s majesty to city enthusiasts enjoying the architectural panorama. The open grassy fields and playground fill the park with vibrant natural life, contrasting pleasantly with the distant urban horizon. This harmony allows groups to enjoy fresh air and greenery alongside the cultural and architectural character of Seattle, making visits both refreshing and stimulating. The setting encourages longer stays since everyone can find an aspect of the environment to appreciate and engage with, enhancing the quality of social interaction in the outdoors.

In winter, clearer days provide crisp views of snow-covered Mount Rainier and the surrounding Cascades, giving a dramatic and refreshing backdrop for outdoor gatherings. Spring and summer bring lush green lawns and extended daylight hours, perfect for picnics, playing, and casual sports without rush.
