Completely phenomenal top to bottom. My friend and I ordered two starters, two pastas, and one main: the spicy shrimp pasta and the branzino were showstoppers. The burrata was also really special. I really found myself taking time with every bite I had across the entire meal. At one point our pastas were taking a little long to come out, and our server took the liberty to bring us another starter in between, and I found my napkin and plates/silverware refreshed after each course which is the kind of service I really value in 2025 (when a nice meal out will always cost over $100pp). The sommelier was awesome but I’ll be looking forward to them getting their full liquor license. I also think throwing some tablecloths on the tables would elevate an already chic interior to match the caliber of the food and service—but maybe I’m just old school. Very happy to have a new favorite (and completely worth it) Italian spot in LA.

Very underwhelming for us. Much much better Italian restaurants all over Los Angeles especially at this price point. We had the tomato salad appetizer. Menu said with stone fruit, root veg and vinegar. The dish was less than half a tomato, half of a plum, and four small shavings of basic radish with no vinegar taste. Meatballs were fine, nothing bad or special. Waiter recommended pomodoro pasta and it was pretty bad. Reason being is that it was swimming in oil. I mean, remarkably oily, there was a pool of oil left over in the bowl. Pork chop was fine but again nothing special. The “grilled turnips” side dish was cold, comically undercooked and inedible. The vibe inside was cool but the hospitality was pretty basic as well. Highly recommend going elsewhere if you are looking for great food.

Came here recently for a pop up that donated meals and groceries to families affected by the ice raids. The food was great and the servers were so sweet. Might have had the best pie of my life that day. Have since been back and their normal menu is awesome. Perfect date night spot if you want to ensure a great time. I think they are connected to the cafe in front too which is also really good!

6/10 for the food. Pasta and meat balls was good. Everything else was meh. Pretty pricey for what it is.

Etra is the kind of Italian spot that sneaks up on you—in the best way. Everyone raves about the chicory salad, but we zigged when everyone else zagged and went for the little gem salad instead. Bright, citrusy, with pistachios for crunch, it was the perfect opener. The spicy vodka pasta with shrimp was an absolute standout—often people say pasta isn’t the star here, but this dish could have headlined the entire meal. Perfectly al dente, rich and spicy without being heavy. We finished with the New York strip steak, cooked to perfection and deeply flavorful. Service was warm, attentive, and just the right amount of present. The room itself is beautiful—intimate, with that candlelit charm that could easily set the tone for a romantic night out. I will say, when the tables next to you get chatty, the acoustics don’t do much to soften the volume. Still, the atmosphere, food, and hospitality make this a place I’d come back to in a heartbeat.

How does Ètra’s ambiance contribute to an ideal group experience?
Ètra’s ambiance is crucial in making it an exceptional spot for your group meetups. The space exudes a unique vibe described as “coastal California cabin meets European trattoria,” blending a rustic yet polished aesthetic that feels both exotic and familiar. The raw, white tile floors contrast with plywood walls, while exit signs cast emerald glows, creating an almost cinematic lighting that adds intrigue and a slightly mysterious flair to the room. This gritty yet charming environment softens the upscale feel, ensuring everyone—from the casual diner to those dressed up for a night out—feels right at home. What are the dining highlights that make Ètra stand out for groups?
The culinary experience at Ètra is an essential draw for groups seeking a place with both quality and variety. The menu is thoughtfully designed around Italian staples with an emphasis on refined, shareable plates. Starters like the burrata over cornbread offer a heavenly blend of sweet and tangy notes that can almost be mistaken for dessert, creating a decadent first impression. The beautifully balanced chicory Caesar salad with its tangy dressing also pairs well with more robust meat dishes, rounding out the meal with fresh greens. Not to be missed is the star of the starters, the signature carne cruda featuring steak tartare with tonnato sauce and fragrant bay leaf oil, sprinkled with crispy fried garlic – a dish that intrigues and delights in every bite.
For mains, groups often rave about the pork ribeye served swimming in a robust red sauce topped with shaved fennel, and the New York strip steak, which many argue can rival dishes at some of the city’s top steakhouses due to its perfect char and tenderness. These meat dishes complement the humble yet solid pasta offerings, such as rigatoni gricia with guanciale and onion soubise or the more unusual spaghetti with tuna, which offer variety without overwhelming the palate. The subtlety of the pasta allows the richer flavors of the starters and mains to shine, making the meal balanced in both taste and pacing – perfect for a group that wants to savor each course together. Desserts like the flourless chocolate cake, surprisingly enjoyable even for those not normally fond of chocolate, round out the dining experience on a sweet, satisfying note.
