Super promising open mic has superb MCs, tons of enthusiasm, crazy energy and support. Definitely the most supportive open mic I've ever participated in, and it's NYC. Drawbacks: the list can include over 25 artists. 7 minutes is too long, and some people are selfish with giving up the mic (like one comic did). You might not go up until after 12 am, and "audience fatigue" sets in. The audience members on my night split the scene and there was half a house by midnight. It's also tough if you're late going up AND nervous, and after your sweaty set is done, you can't enjoy a drink and have a smoke because they close the beer garden. Otherwise, if you don't mind watching a lot of music and bizarro-to-mainstream comedy, the first 90 minutes is a fantastic experience.

This theater should restrict itself to clown shows. I rented it knowing I needed to run the projector. They had three staffers on duty that night and not one of them knew enough to get the equipment going. It took my tech guy and me nearly an hour to get the thing operational and the absentee manager was too indifferent to see it through on the phone. It was amazing that the audience stayed. Do you know what torture it is to fiddle with equipment for an hour while your audience sits there watching? Then they tried to kick us out on schedule so another group of unfortunates could step in to be sheared. Incompetent and arrogant -- bad combination. Horse Trade...I can think of a few other animals to describe this bunch.
