Why Frontier Airlines is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family

Frontier Airlines is a Denver-based ultra-low-cost carrier known for its affordable travel options across many U.S. destinations, especially around the Mountain West region. Originally founded in 1994 as a revival of the historic Frontier Airlines name, it operates primarily out of Denver International Airport and offers flights to cities throughout the western and central United States. The airline appeals to travelers looking for budget-friendly fares, making it a practical choice for friends meeting up or taking budget trips together. Highlights include easy-to-use app and website booking processes, which streamline reservations for travelers. Frontier also offers flights to popular gateway cities near national parks and mountain destinations, reflecting its legacy roots serving the Mountain West area. While the airline emphasizes low prices, customers should be aware that seating tends to be cramped with limited legroom and minimal seat padding, which can affect comfort on longer flights. Overall, Frontier Airlines provides an economical option for those prioritizing cost savings over luxury amenity offerings.

Here's what people think of Frontier Airlines

As of recent, Frontier Airlines holds a 2.1-star rating based on 207 reviews.

Customer reviews of Frontier Airlines reveal a mixed to negative overall sentiment, reflected in a low average rating around 2.1 out of 5 stars. Common complaints center on customer service issues, frequent flight delays and cancellations, and high costs associated with baggage and seat selection, which many found unexpected. Negative reviews emphasize frustration with poor communication and the airline's inflexible cancellation and refund policies, with numerous passengers describing their experiences as stressful or disappointing. However, positive reviews acknowledge the airline's affordable pricing as a significant benefit, along with the convenience of the booking process via the website and mobile app. Some travelers appreciated friendly and helpful staff during flight disruptions, though these remarks were fewer compared to criticisms. In summary, while Frontier Airlines offers some advantages in price and accessibility, potential passengers should be prepared for trade-offs in comfort, service quality, and added fees. This balance leads to a cautious recommendation, especially for those valuing cost over premium service features.

Terrible Experience with Frontier Airlines Flight F966 I recently had the unfortunate experience of flying Frontier Airlines on flight F966, and I can say without a doubt that it was one of the worst travel experiences I have ever encountered. After being stranded at the airport for over 18 hours, I feel compelled to share my frustrations. First and foremost, the customer service was shockingly inadequate. When we sought assistance regarding our delayed flight, we were met with unhelpful responses and an overall lack of concern from the staff. It was as if they were completely indifferent to the plight of stranded passengers. As the hours dragged on, the mistreatment became increasingly evident. There were no updates provided about our flight status, and basic necessities like food and water were nearly impossible to come by. Many passengers, including families with young children, were left without any support or compassion, forced to scrounge for overpriced snacks from vending machines. The indifference displayed by Frontier Airlines during such a stressful situation was appalling. It was clear that passenger well-being was not a priority for them. We were left to navigate the uncomfortable airport environment with little to no assistance, and it felt like our concerns were completely ignored. In short, my experience with Frontier Airlines on flight F966 was a nightmare. If you value your time, comfort, and the basic decency of customer service, I highly recommend looking elsewhere for your travel needs. This airline left a lasting negative impression, and I will think twice before booking with them again.

Horrible service, no management or managers to speak to, we waited 3 hours in a line to leave our baggage. Mid way through our wait we were told to switch lines, waited some more. Once we got to the attendant she told us we could not board our flight because check in took to long!!!! I will never fly with frontier again!! I would not give them another opportunity even if the flight was free.. no wonder the ratings are so bad with this airline... go to another airline... this is not worth the hassle!!!. I would give less than 1 star.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This has been a horrible experience with terrible customer service. I had already paid and had an assigned seat. I went to scan my boarding pass and they told me I couldn’t get on the flight because they had overbooked it even though the other 2 people I was traveling with were able to get on the plane. They were very rude and yelling at me even though it was their fault. They said the next available flight was 2 days for now but only gave me a voucher for 1 night in a hotel and no meal voucher. This is completely unacceptable and I will never be flying on Frontier again and I urge you all to do the same.

Would give zero stars if I could. Worse airline ever. How do you overbook an airplane? It's the dumbest business move to me. Sell what you have then you won't inconvenience people especially if it's your last plan out. Never had this problem with any other airline including Spirit and you know it's bad when you bring up Spirit.

Don't book here just to get a deal. Cheap flights but poor customer service. They make sure to ignore you or disappear fast when there's an issue. Don't forget..talk crap about you right to your face and laugh. Plane had an oil leak and we had to get off plane and wait hours and hours. A 10:29AM flight turned into a 8:49PM flight. A staff member gave $10 coupons for dinner though. It doesn't make up for what happened. They offered an earlier flight and I confirmed but they do not tell you it could take up to 2 hours to update in the app. So I wasted time stressing out trying to chat with some AI thing that was useless but I finally got through to a person that was helping me understand what was going on. So finally got help after having to call. Update: the email offered a flight not even going to Miami but the girl on the phone didn't figure it out till the 2nd phone call when the early booking still didn't show up in app. I'm cancelling and never booking again! 11 hours wasted sitting at an airport.

Why rally at Frontier Airlines with your friends?

Choosing Frontier Airlines as the starting point for your group travel is an excellent decision for friends and family seeking an affordable, environmentally responsible, and flexible way to explore together. Despite its modest 2.1 rating, Frontier positions itself as America’s low-fare airline, making it appealing to groups on a budget who want to maximize their travel dollars. The airline offers an extensive and growing network, with over 120 destinations across the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America, including 22 new routes launching later in 2025. This expansive connectivity makes it easier for groups to find convenient flights to popular vacation spots or urban hubs for meetups. Moreover, Frontier Airlines is recognized as America’s greenest carrier, operating a highly fuel-efficient fleet that benefits environmentally conscious travelers. Gathering your friends and family for a trip on Frontier means you can take advantage of the latest route expansions, low fares, and eco-friendly flying, all while sharing the adventure of planning and journeying together.

What activities can you do when flying with Frontier Airlines for group meetups?

Flying Frontier Airlines is primarily about the travel experience, but what makes it great for group meetups is the variety of destinations that open up possibilities for shared activities. Their coverage includes major U.S. cities like Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Chicago, as well as sunny Caribbean locales such as Turks and Caicos and The Bahamas. Once you arrive at your destination, your group can dive into activities that match your interests—whether it’s beach lounging, cultural tours, hiking adventures, or urban exploration. Frontier’s new routes make previously harder-to-reach locations more accessible, giving groups options for everything from tropical retreats to vibrant city trips. Also, the airline’s ultra-low-cost model encourages travelers to customize their experience, allowing groups to choose which services and amenities they want and avoid unnecessary expenses. This flexibility means that whether your group wants a budget-friendly getaway or a more tailored trip, Frontier facilitates your needs.

Why is Frontier Airlines ideal for group planning and convenience?

Planning group travel often entails managing different schedules, budgets, and preferences, and Frontier Airlines offers features well suited for such coordination. Frontier’s multiple daily flights from major hubs provide flexibility in departure times, enabling groups to book flights that accommodate everyone’s calendar. The airline’s extensive route map, which spans over 120 destinations, includes both domestic and international options, making it easier to pick a destination everyone agrees upon. Frontier Airlines also communicates improvements and expansions regularly, such as its recent announcement of 22 new routes launching late 2025, which further increases travel options and simplifies connecting flights. Additionally, Frontier’s low base fares help groups save money upfront, and their à la carte pricing lets you customize seats, baggage, and in-flight services according to each traveler’s preference, reducing overall costs for the group. These factors make Frontier a practical choice for planning group getaways without breaking the bank or causing logistical headaches.

How does Frontier Airlines support an eco-friendly travel experience for groups?

Sustainability is an increasingly important consideration for group travel, and Frontier Airlines stands out in this regard, being known as America’s greenest airline. With a fleet composed of 84% highly fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo family aircraft as of mid-2025, Frontier achieves significant reductions in fuel consumption—averaging 43% fuel savings compared to older models. This translates to fewer emissions per passenger mile, which is especially important when traveling in groups that generate a larger carbon footprint overall. Frontier continually invests in next-generation aircraft engines, such as the PW1100 GTF engine for their Airbus A321neos, further enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing environmental impact. For groups mindful of their ecological footprint but seeking affordable air travel, Frontier offers a way to combine responsible flying with budget-conscious choices. Choosing Frontier as your travel carrier supports green aviation efforts while providing the connectivity and service groups need.

What are the benefits and challenges of flying Frontier Airlines with a group?

Frontier Airlines offers several benefits ideal for groups: affordable ticket prices, a broad and expanding route network, newer fuel-efficient aircraft, and options to tailor your travel experience through add-ons. These allow groups to secure cost-effective flights to many popular destinations across the Americas. The airline’s commitment to expanding routes ensures more convenience and itinerary choices for group travel. Additionally, Frontier's emphasis on sustainability may align with the values of environmentally conscious groups.

However, flying Frontier does come with challenges you should anticipate for group trips. The airline’s base fares are low, but additional costs for baggage, seat selection, and onboard services can add up, so careful planning is required to avoid unexpected expenses. Frontier has a reputation for minimal in-flight amenities, which might affect group comfort on longer flights. Also, with a rating of 2.1 from over 200 reviews, customers have reported mixed experiences regarding service and reliability, so managing expectations and communicating clearly with your travel companions is important. Despite these challenges, many groups find Frontier to be a worthwhile option because of the significant savings and growing route options, making it a practical and interesting choice for group meetups.

How can Frontier Airlines' new route expansions enhance your group’s travel plans?

The significant announcement of Frontier Airlines launching 22 new routes in late 2025 greatly enhances what groups can achieve with their travel plans. These include new services to destinations like Providenciales in Turks and Caicos and a return to Nassau in The Bahamas. With more flights originating from major U.S. airports such as Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Chicago, group travelers have increased flexibility in planning their departures from widely accessible locations. This expansion means your group can explore more diverse destinations without the need for multiple layovers or switching airlines. These new routes open the door to tropical vacations, cultural excursions, or urban explorations that might have been previously cost-prohibitive. Moreover, the ability to book together on direct routes improves travel cohesion and reduces the stress of coordinating separate itineraries. Ultimately, this route growth supports group travel that is more convenient, economical, and exciting.

What should groups know about Frontier Airlines’ service and customer experience?

When considering Frontier Airlines for a group trip, understanding the service framework is key to setting expectations. Frontier operates as an ultra-low-cost carrier, which means the base fare covers essential transport, and most extras—such as checked baggage, priority boarding, and in-seat refreshments—require additional fees. For groups accustomed to full-service airlines, this à la carte pricing could initially feel restrictive, but it allows each traveler to customize costs meticulously. The airline’s customer rating of 2.1 out of 5 suggests some passengers have faced issues related to punctuality, service, or overall experience. However, Frontier is actively investing in fleet modernization and network expansion, signaling improvements ahead. Groups should prepare for a no-frills experience balanced against cost savings and plan accordingly—for example, purchasing baggage allowance in advance to avoid higher airport fees. Communicating these factors within your group ensures everyone has a clear picture of what to expect, ultimately fostering a smoother and more enjoyable group trip.

How does Frontier Airlines compare to other budget airlines for group travel?

Among budget airlines, Frontier Airlines distinguishes itself through its combination of extensive route offerings and a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability. Its fleet of mostly A320neo aircraft provides one of the most fuel-efficient flying experiences compared to other low-cost carriers. Frontier’s growing network of more than 120 destinations and 22 new routes that launch late 2025 also means that groups have more locations to choose from than many other budget airlines offer. Cost-wise, Frontier’s ultra-low fares can compete favorably; however, ancillary fees for bags and seats must be factored in to get an accurate price comparison. Other budget airlines may provide different service models, such as Southwest’s free checked bags but higher base fares, or Spirit’s similarly low fares but less modern fleet. For groups prioritizing price and eco-friendly flying over luxurious in-flight amenities, Frontier presents a compelling choice that balances these priorities. Reviewing route availability, price transparency, and group needs in detail will help determine the best budget airline for your meetup.

What are the unique features of Frontier Airlines' fleet that benefit group travel?

Frontier Airlines’ fleet is among the most modern and fuel-efficient in the United States, with 84% of aircraft being from the Airbus A320neo family. These planes are designed for increased fuel efficiency, which reduces operating costs and environmental impact. For groups, this means generally smoother flights with modern amenities such as improved cabin noise reduction and better air quality. Additionally, Frontier’s commitment to updating their fleet with new PW1100 GTF engines on Airbus A321neos signals ongoing improvements in fuel economy and performance. This modern fleet contributes to more reliable scheduling and helps the airline maintain its position as a green airline leader. For travelers sensitive to environmental concerns, choosing Frontier supports cleaner travel practices. These factors combined make the flight experience more pleasant and affordable for groups flying together.

How can groups maximize their experience when flying Frontier Airlines?

To make the most out of your group travel with Frontier Airlines, strategic planning is essential. First, book flights well in advance to secure the lowest fares and availability on direct routes that suit everyone. Take advantage of Frontier’s à la carte pricing by deciding as a group which extras, such as checked luggage or seat selection, are necessary to avoid surprises and ensure comfort. Also, coordinate check-in and boarding times to keep the group together and reduce stress. Communicate clearly about the no-frills nature of the airline so all members are prepared for limited onboard services. Finally, pick a destination from Frontier’s broad network that offers activities appealing to the entire group. By preparing carefully and embracing Frontier’s affordability and sustainability, groups can turn their trip into a memorable adventure.

What future developments can group travelers expect from Frontier Airlines?

Frontier Airlines’ roadmap indicates continuation of route expansion, fleet modernization, and service improvements. The addition of 22 new routes in late 2025 demonstrates the airline’s commitment to broadening travel options, which will benefit groups by providing more direct and convenient flights to varied destinations. The focus on purchasing more fuel-efficient aircraft with advanced engines also suggests that travelers can expect continued enhancements in flight comfort and environmental sustainability. Frontier is investing in loyalty programs and product upgrades, which could mean better perks and services for frequent travelers or groups booking together. These developments point toward a future where Frontier balances ultra-low cost with a progressively better customer experience. For groups looking to travel economically while maintaining reasonable comfort, Frontier’s trajectory is promising.

This article detailed why Frontier Airlines is an attractive choice for group travel despite its modest rating. Frontier’s affordable fares, environmental responsibility, growing route network, and flexible pricing create a framework that supports both budget-conscious and eco-friendly group meetups. By understanding the airline’s service model and planning strategically, groups can enjoy accessible travel to exciting destinations together.
