Why Hipcooks is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family

Hipcooks is an innovative cooking school that offers a refreshing departure from traditional culinary classes by focusing on home cooks rather than professional chefs. Founded in 2004 by Monika Reti, Hipcooks emphasizes learning to cook intuitively and confidently by 'banning recipes' and encouraging cooks to 'cook from the hip.' This approach inspires creativity, trust in instincts, and most importantly, fun in the kitchen. With seven brick-and-mortar locations spanning from San Diego to Seattle, Hipcooks provides a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere where friends can gather to learn, cook, and enjoy delightful meals together. Each class culminates in a communal dining experience, fostering connections among participants. The schools are known for their colorful, bright, and inviting spaces, complete with aromatic, freshly prepared dishes that stimulate the senses from the moment you arrive. Hipcooks offers a wide array of themed classes like "My Big Fat Greek Cooking Class," "Dim Sum & then Sum," and "Thai One On," catering to diverse tastes and occasions. Beyond just cooking skills, Hipcooks equips learners with entertaining tips and kitchen confidence to craft memorable dinner parties or casual gatherings, making it an excellent destination for friends to meet, bond, and share delicious food.

I hosted a company event virtually with Hipcooks now two times and they have done an excellent job. The host was extremely upbeat and kept the team super engaged. The food (and cocktail!) came out perfect and even if you aren't a great chef, they really walk you through everything and help you as needed. Highly recommend for both corporate and social events - I've been to a live class too (pre-pandemic) and it was even better. Thank you Hipcooks!

This business has questionable practices. We booked an experience that was supposed to take place a the beginning of the pandemic ~May of 2020. We paid hundreds of dollars in advance for this class. As of May 2022, we have still not received a refund!!! The only option is to use that money towards their online cooking classes. We would have to register for a lot of classes to equate to refund amount (plus some classes you have to buy your own ingredients- so then we would be out more money!). I understand small business have been under enormous pressure and have had to deal with the aftermath of the pandemic. Their excuse of they do not have the financial capability to process a refund and are still recovering from the aftermath of the pandemic is ridiculous. That means they took customers moneys (who could also be suffering financially from the pandemic) and have already spent their money! The company does not communicate well and at this point I am extremely frustrated.

Highly recommend! My group of 10 clients and I had the best time with Kyrsten during her Viva Paella class! I'm a financial advisor and I booked this event for some of my best clients for the holidays hoping to host an activity that was interactive, authentic, educational, and special and this was all of that bundled into two delicious hours. Can't wait to explore the other themed classes. We will definitely be back!
