Visiting from another state and came to see the copy of the Declaration of Independence. We also saw an original Shakespeare, photo exhibit from the civil rights era, traditional woven blankets and pottery, paintings, and a sculpture by Frank Lloyd Wright. It's more than your average library. Be sure to "check out" the seed library. We also enjoyed the extensive collection of maps and genealogy books. It was a great way to spend a cold, wet day as visitors to Dallas.

A large library, eight floors, across Akard Plaza - a green space, is their city hall. There are many guards. Many corners of the library are smelly. I happened to see sofa on the 5th floor and sat down, didn't realize behind the sofa are many books about Chinese in Texas. They also have a genealogy section.

Check out and return books on the first floor. Amazing views from the windows! Great selection of books. There is free parking below the library. A glass case in the center has elevators that will take you straight into the library.

Favorite library of all time. Everyone here is so friendly, helpful, consistent & politely recognize you when you come in more than once or twice ☺ This library also has the best meeting rooms & accommodations you could find anywhere in Downtown Dallas. I will always use this facility as my #1 meeting/business needs & of course will always recommend to anyone it may also serve helpful. ☆Great way to stay informed/aware/involved in direct access to local events & community related need to know information/meetings. Perfect location considering it's in a very high traffic area of Downtown Dallas. Parking is always available with minimal walking & personal safety in parking garage is a top priority of the staff & security. (I've never felt uneasy or uncomfortable with personal safety while walking to my car in the garage- regardless what time it is.

I’ve lived in Dallas for years, but I’ve always felt hesitant about visiting Erik Jonsson Central Library due to the large number of individuals experiencing homelessness often gathered outside. Recently, I finally had a reason to go inside, and unfortunately, the experience confirmed many of my concerns. Upon entering, I ended up following someone inside who appeared to be in poor hygiene condition, and I witnessed a physical altercation take place in the elevator. It was unsettling and did not feel like a safe environment for patrons looking to quietly use the library’s services. When I brought this up to the librarian helping me, her response was, “Really, this place is no different than any urban street location.” With all due respect, I strongly disagree. I visit many places across the city, and they are not typically surrounded by visible disorder or confrontational behavior. Public libraries are vital community resources, and they should feel safe and welcoming to everyone. I understand that homelessness is a complex issue, but more needs to be done to maintain a secure and accessible environment for all library users.
