Jewel-Osco

Why Jewel-Osco is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
Jewel-Osco is a well-established regional supermarket chain headquartered in Itasca, Illinois, serving the Chicago metropolitan area with 189 stores across northern, central, and western Illinois, eastern Iowa, and parts of northwest Indiana. Its rich history began as a door-to-door coffee delivery service, evolving over the decades into a comprehensive grocery and pharmacy retailer. Jewel-Osco uniquely combines grocery stores with accompanying drugstores under one roof, offering customers the convenience of one-stop shopping for both food and pharmacy needs. This combination is thanks to strategic acquisitions such as Osco Drug and Turn Style, which expanded its retail offerings into health, beauty, and home goods. Customers appreciate the variety of departments Jewel-Osco offers, from fresh produce, bakery, and deli sections to pharmacy services and household items. The store's large footprint in the Midwest and its multiple community locations make it an accessible and reliable spot to meet friends, shop for groceries, and take care of other retail needs. Jewel-Osco’s blend of grocery and pharmacy, coupled with its broad presence and historic role in the community, make it a convenient and practical meeting place for friends and families looking to shop, eat, or simply catch up while running errands.
Here's what people think of Jewel-Osco
As of recent, Jewel-Osco holds a 3.9-star rating based on 1971 reviews.
User reviews for Jewel-Osco reveal a mixed but informative picture. Many reviewers appreciate the convenience of the combined supermarket and pharmacy services and the wide selection of products available. The bakery and decorated cakes receive positive mentions for quality and creativity, making the store a favored choice for special occasions by some. Loyal customers also value the potential savings through digital deals, although some have experienced difficulties with the store’s app and coupon redemption processes. On the other hand, negative reviews commonly highlight issues with customer service and staff attitudes. Complaints include unfriendly or indifferent employees, inconsistent application of savings and coupons during checkout, and general dissatisfaction with management. Additionally, some customers report problems with delivery services, including late arrivals and missing items without proper communication or apology. These service lapses have led a segment of customers to express frustration and reluctance to return. While the overall rating stands close to 3.9 out of 5, indicating an average but not exceptional customer experience, it is clear that while Jewel-Osco offers convenience and broad product offerings, there remain areas—particularly customer service and digital savings systems—that could benefit from improvements to enhance shopper satisfaction.

A huge grocery store that is clean and has a huge variety. The prices are comparative and sometimes over priced and some in range. They have Arabic stuff that i really like. There is a little Starbucks inside and an Associated Bank inside as well. A lovely florist inside ad well.

They now refuse to bag your groceries if you bring your own bags! A new “policy”—after 38years shopping there! I was there at 7 AM and no one behind me at the checkout stand. The checker did nothing but refuse to bag my groceries! I’m 74 and don’t need this extra work! She just stood there after checking me out and did nothing! And most of the prices are only if you use digital coupons that means you have to get the exact item, brand, size on their app to get the price and they have to acknowledge it. Takes a lot of extra time for the buyer. Horrible place! Aisles are too filled for carts in opposite directions to pass each other. After all these years less service , more hassle, higher prices, and not very civil checkers. I’m never going back, even in a heat wave or a blizzard. Transferring all my prescriptions too. 3.9 rating ought to be 1.5!

I shopped at this Jewel Osco with my family while we were in town dropping one of our kids at college. I was surprised to see such negative reviews on this place. We didn’t have any issues with this store or the staff. Everything was fine and they had everything we were looking for. I will shop here again in the future.

Great store with friendly, helpful staff! I was searching for a special bottle for an occasion, and the gentleman in the liquor section went above and beyond to assist me. Exceptional customer service like this is hard to find nowadays!
