Lincoln Theatre
Why Lincoln Theatre is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C., is an iconic historic venue known for its deeply rooted cultural significance and vibrant entertainment offerings. Originally constructed in 1921 and opening in 1922, it became a central hub for the Black community during segregation, showcasing silent films, vaudeville, and later sound films. The theatre flourished under owner A.E. Lichtman, who transformed it into a luxurious movie house and added the Lincoln Colonnade ballroom, fostering cultural events and legendary performances on "Washington's Black Broadway." Renowned artists such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holiday graced its stage, embedding it in the nation's musical and theatrical heritage. Though challenged financially after desegregation and damaged by the 1968 riots, Lincoln Theatre was meticulously restored and reopened in 1994 to its near-original grandeur, including Victorian, Neo-Classical, and Art Deco details. Today, it continues as a premier performing arts venue hosting a diverse array of concerts, theatrical productions, and community events. Its rich history combined with modern programming makes it an exceptional and meaningful place to meet friends and enjoy memorable cultural experiences in an inspiring atmosphere.

Great venue and we will definitely come back when I'm in town! Loved the upper deck area - perfect room for dancing and some tables.

This review is for the Lincoln Theatre, a longstanding concert venue in Raleigh NC…not a similarly named venue in Washington DC. Sound is always superb. Staff is always friendly. Beer is always cold. I’ve been to many shows here and will keep coming back as long as decent Rock & Metal bands are booked. My only complaint is lack of open space to mingle during packed shows.

I have been going to the Lincoln Theater for 17 years (among other small music venues in Raleigh) and it is the best imo. I live in Cary and can get in and out easy peasy. Parking... no problem. Close, but far enough away from the city center. This particular time was to see Roots of Creation/Grateful Dub with Alific and Eric Swanson. AMAZING! The Lincoln Theater may be old, but that's what gives it it's charm. Bathrooms, bar, balcony.... all good. Sound... amazing 🏆. The bass pumps right through you! Keep it up Lincoln Theater! 🎸🎧🎵

Sound is always phenomenal. Fantastic atmosphere and the door people are usually super chill. The security can be a bit uptight, but honestly, it's on you if you can't keep it together. I've never failed to have a tremendous time here. Love that there is a parking garage right across the street. The jam bands they get always destroy and some cover bands have surprisingly blown my face off.

This place is great! A small venue (like 350 people) means a very intimate show. There is smoking in front of the venue with bench seating outside. There is also seating on the balcony, which costs extra. There is a great view from the balcony. If you don't mind standing, the GA floor goes right to the stage. It has a very, theater-ish vibe. I love the atmosphere. Between the way the floor levels up, and the balcony, there is good visibility of the stage area everywhere. They have a bar, priced like any venue bar. They also provide water in the form of paper cups and Gatorade coolers, I found this to be a lifesaver, as I can only make these shows on a strict budget. This is one of my favorite venues. There is pay with your phone parking all around, fairly easy to park close by.
