Once the largest open-air mall in the United States, Lloyd Center now offers a unique blend of shopping, community events, and entertainment that make it a memorable meeting place for friends. The mall spans three floors, including a bustling food court and office spaces, and is famously home to the Lloyd Center Ice Skating Rink, a major attraction that adds a recreational twist to the typical mall experience. Its large parking facilities with 8,000 spaces make accessibility convenient for visitors from across the city. Over the years, the mall has transitioned from housing traditional anchor stores to fostering independent local businesses, creating a distinctive atmosphere infused with Portland’s creative and countercultural spirit. Reviewers appreciate the community atmosphere and the ease of parking, as well as the novelty attractions like the ice skating rink which offer entertainment beyond shopping. On the other hand, some negative reviews focus on the mall’s decline from its former anchor store prominence, pointing to vacant anchor spaces left by Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Sears, which can give parts of the mall a somewhat empty or dated feel. Some visitors mention that the mall feels like a “low-tier” shopping destination compared to more modern centers, with certain areas appearing underutilized or less vibrant. Despite this, the mall's ongoing redevelopment and focus on local businesses have been viewed positively as a promising sign of revival. Overall, the reviews convey that while Lloyd Center may not be the premier shopping destination it once was, it offers a distinctive and culturally rich experience especially suited for those interested in community-focused shopping and entertainment.

Ours wasn’t a bad experience, it was just strange. I would have loved to have seen this place in its heyday. When it had 3 floors of shops and plenty of people to go into them. Now it’s mostly empty store fronts with a few shops here and there and a few food service places. If this were the size of mall I’m used to (two floors, maybe half the length of Lloyd) then it probably wouldn’t feel so strange, but being able to take the pictures I took and not have anyone in them, in the middle of the summer, is certainly odd. Things to note though, it felt very safe. The escalators are pretty much all still running, and the A/C is running as well.

This mall is somewhat empty but the building and the remaining stores are very pleasant. Plus having an ice rink in the middle of a mall is really cool

Eats !

Although there were way fewer people and way fewer shops, this mall is still beautiful. It has a Christmas Tree inside for the Holidays. It still has a few places to eat such as Chicken Connection which I found on the food court. It is sad seeing signs seemingly everywhere that offer huge discounts such as ones you would normally see a places nearing the end :(

An experience never to be forgotten. An ice rink. Great coffee. A little run down but the number of community events was impressive. Hope it lasts but may well be demolished in the next few years.
