Lives up to the hype. My friends and I loved our two pizzas and the appetizers, but to be fair my one more experienced Chicago friend said there are better places so take this with a grain of salt. The crust was baked to perfection and personally I thought the tomato’s and spinach made it amazing. Took about 45 min for two pizzas but they did give us a heads up on that so no hard feelings, plus they took a walk-in group of 10.

In town for the PWX convention and wanted to try traditional Chicago deep dish. Lou’s was walking distance from my hotel so I decided to give it a shot. Very busy place - waiting time for a table for 1 at 430pm on a Saturday was 1.5hrs. I decided to get mine to go. Still took an hour! But it was worth it! Great flavor and you have to get the butter crust. I could eat the crust all day long! Highly recommend. Coworkers had Lou’s and another local place and although the other was good said Lou’s was the better of the two.

Made a stop at this famous pizza joint for an afternoon snack. There was a wait when we got there and they were kind enough to let us put our names down and place our food order. But as we got downstairs to use the restrooms, we found out that the bar was free so, we ate our food at the bar. Drink selections are plenty, and friendly and attentive bar tender truly was a nice touch. Our food came out after a while and it was piping hot and delicious. Loved the wings and the pizza had good flavor. The deep dish pizza is crispy and not too salty. We truly enjoyed our afternoon snack here.

Great location right on Michigan Avenue near the Chicago River bridge. Drives in lots of tourist traffic. We ended up getting pizza to-go. While you can buy individual items, there are also some packages...we opted for one including a large classic deep dish pizza, a side (salad or chicken wings) and cookies. Total was about $60. For reference, standard deep dish cheese pizza prices range from about $13 for personal to $32 for a large. I went in and placed the order at their take-out counter. It was ready in about 40 minutes (Tuesday night at around 6pm). Although the buttery crust and cheese were great...we were a bit disappointed with the tomato sauce...didn't have much flavor. Were expecting a better flavor profile. All the staff we encountered during our visit were welcoming, patient and friendly. Lots of parking lots in the immediate area but can be pricey. Much better to find metered parking in the nearby streets and pay using the Park Chicago App...this app was very help in parking throughout the city during our visit...particularly when you only need a few hours at each stop.

It is busy. Make reservation online to avoid the wait. We ordered two different entrees. I got a house salad and lasagna lunch special. It was amazing. The sauce is special. It was executed perfectly with the right balance to blend with the cheese and noodle in the lasagna. We were disappointed with the meatball sandwich only because it was advertised as coming with three meatballs but was served with only two. We asked the waitress and she brought another meatball in a bowl. He loved the sandwich except is was smaller than he anticipated. We had to wait about 25 minutes to get in but we both loved the food and would come again

What should you keep in mind when planning a group meetup at Lou Malnati’s?
