Why McCadden Place Theatre is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
McCadden Place Theatre, located at 1157 North McCadden Place in Hollywood, Los Angeles, is a cherished performing arts venue with a rich history dating back to 1980. Conceived by two New York actors, Jay Donohue and Joy Rinaldi, the theatre was established to provide a space where live stage performances could flourish away from Hollywood’s film and television sets. Its origins in a repurposed, graffiti-covered furniture warehouse and the hard work of friends and volunteers imbue the theatre with a raw, artistic spirit. Through years it has remained a hub for diverse and quality theatrical productions, reflecting the varied voices of Los Angeles' acting community. After a devastating fire in 1991, the theatre was painstakingly rebuilt, emerging with an updated grid, raised ceiling, and an on-stage balcony—enhancements that improve viewing and performance experience. The intimate yet dynamic space offers a unique setting ideal for hosting live plays, artistic classes, and various cultural events. Guests consistently appreciate its close-knit atmosphere where creativity and artistic expression are nurtured, making it a wonderful spot for friends to gather, enjoy live entertainment, and support local arts.

Small theatre in Hollywood that has a great play running right now..... Fool for Love. If you have time on the weekend... Fri, Sat or Sun evening go see it.

Reviewing as someone who worked on a show that rented this space. If you are looking for a space to rent for a show or event... BEWARE! This theatre is a bundle of broken equipment. We had to repair many lights and align almost all of them. The sound equipment is basic at best. But beyond that there are things like the control booth overhead decides on its own to turn on and off, the lights are broken or burnt out in the tiny staircase leading to the booth and there's a host of other problems. If it's all you can afford then just be aware that you WILL have problems.

I've done work here in a couple different capacities over the years, and it's always managed to disappoint me. I suppose if you're on a budget this makes a decent space, but don't expect the owners to be accommodating. Safety is obviously a low priority, as is cleanliness and quality of equipment. If you put on a show or rehearse here, good luck!

Very cool theatre on a side street near the heart of Hollywood. I've seen two alternative performances here, including a magician named Jon Armstrong and a grotesque clowning troupe called Mil Grus. It's an old theatre without bells and whistles, but it provides a unique venue for off-beat fringe art. It's tricky to get to the bathroom, because it's located around the corner from the main performance area. Pro Tips: - Arrive early so you can find street parking - The bathroom isn't inside the theatre venue, so plan accordingly!
