Place looks cute and cozy. The noodles tasted 7/10, but too oily. The dumplings were great. The fried rice was good as well as it was less oily then noodles. They close at 930 so go earlier.

Went for lunch. My favorite were the Pan fried dumplings - vegetable and chicken. The soup dumplings were nice. Tried steamed dumplings too which went so well with the chilli oil. Another favorite was the dumplings in chilli oil. Very flavourful food. Definitely coming back for dumplings. The jelly noodles was ok. It is a fan favorite but I didn't enjoy the texture.

My friend from China recommended Mian & Bao. We went yesterday and ordered soup dumplings (good enough but wrapper stuck to the parchment paper so the soup came out while trying to get one on a spoon), fried chicken cutlet (very yummy), Dan Dan noodles (zero flavor or spice), spicy wontons (spicy but not flavorful), fried pork buns (exploded with oil on first bite, not very tasty except for the crispy underside), and the strawberry shaved ice cream (delicious). Service was okay until the end when we sat there for 15 minutes waiting for dessert, to have our table cleared, and pay. Our waiter disappeared. We finally asked someone else for help. I had high hopes for this place after my friend’s recommendation but for $65, this mostly bland meal wasn’t worth it. Maybe they were focused on working things out at the hot pot location that day. 🤷🏻♀️

Overall was disappointing experience. Cucumber and soup dumplings were way too sweet. We ordered the pan fried buns, it was under cooked, waitress took it off the ticket. Noodle soup and garlic broccoli were good though, especially noodle soup is authentic Shanghainese. But the fried egg in noodle soup is almost bad.

Beautiful restaurant with friendly service! We tried a bit of everything and overall was not impressed with the food. The Xiao Lon Pau was meh - really big and juicy but lacking flavour and the skin was too thin (any time we picked one up it had ripped in the bottom) . Could have been an off day We had Dan Dan noodles that were good and spicy , beef buns that were underwhelming and a handful of other dishes that left us wanting more flavour all around I’ll definitely go back and give it another try - hoping this was an off day in the kitchen The beef pancake roll was surprisingly delicious!

This mix of sharing great food, an open kitchen, and efficient ordering makes Mian & Bao perfect for any casual group get-together.
Why is Mian & Bao’s menu specially suited for groups or families?
The menu at Mian & Bao is designed to showcase the best of Sichuan and Shanghainese cuisines with a focus on noodles, buns, and snacks that are both flavorful and easy to share. For groups, this means a variety of dishes can be sampled, covering a broad spectrum of tastes and textures—from the sweet and delicate xiao long bao dumplings filled with piping hot broth to the spicy, expertly seasoned Sichuan noodles that pack a punch. The bao buns, although challenging to perfect, offer unique experiences such as the sheng jian bao that are crispy on the bottom but juicy inside, creating an interesting contrast that sparks conversation about flavors and technique. Aside from these, the menu includes smaller bites or xiao chi like braised wheat gluten and marinated cucumbers, which serve as excellent starters to complement the main courses and add diversity to the meal. Moreover, most dishes can be customized for spice levels, accommodating the varied preferences and dietary tolerances that inevitably arise in a group setting. This flexibility paired with generous portion sizes allows families and groups to comfortably enjoy a shared meal with enough variety and volume to satisfy everyone’s appetite and curiosity.
