Our instructor Mason was awesome! He was knowledgeable, patient & encouraging. My family, aged 14- 49, caught waves for the first time ever on our first surf session- all thanks to Mason and MBSS. It’s an experience we’ll never forget. Highly recommended!

During our recent trip to San Diego, we had a private surf lesson at the Pacific Beach location with Russell, and I can't recommend the school and Russell highly enough. Surfing was the thing my 6-year-old was most excited about when planning our trip and it more than delivered. Russell stayed with her the entire time to make sure she was safe and having fun and still had time to make sure the rest of us knew when to get on our boards, turn around and catch our waves. And he's a great teacher too - we all got fully up on our boards at least once. We all had a really great time and have the amazing pictures to prove it.

Terrible customer service experience I never leave bad reviews but our experience with Mission Surf was so terrible I felt like other parents should know. I booked a private surf lesson in late July for our son while on our vacation to Mission Beach. I selected the mission beach location in the upper right corner of their website and selected a time/day that worked as the location was walkable from were we were staying. I also included a t-shirt on my reservation and paid for everything up front as required. The day of the lesson I called the office at the number listed on the invoice as I notice the location was at different location than we booked. I had double checked everything while booking and was certain that we didn’t reserve the time at the other location. The number listed on the invoice went to a message that said they number was disconnected so I looked it up on google and tried calling another number. Nobody answered after multiple calls and about 30 min later I got a call back from their office. I explained that we booked at the Mission beach location and the woman from their office said they don’t have private lessons there on the weekends so we’d need to go to the other location. I said that didn’t work well for us as we could walk to the location we booked and asked if we could switch to a weekday and were flexible on the day. She said she could do that but she would need to charge us a cancellation fee. I said that wasn’t reasonable as we booked at one location and I had screenshots of that booking selection so it wasn’t reasonable to charge a fee when it wasn’t our fault. She argued with me and was not helpful so I asked the manager to call us. About 45min later the manager called and said they could not move the location so I said we would have to take an Uber there and he said he would pay for it. My whole family was going to setup on the beach and watch the lesson originally but we had just our son and my wife go so the other kids would not have to lose hours of beach time as we couldn’t take all our beach stuff in an Uber. My wife and son went to the location and the office person said they didn’t have t-shirts, which we had ordered and already paid for. They also did not pay for the Uber as the manager said they would. Our son had a nice lesson but they didn’t refund us for the t-shirt so I reached out to the office. They said they would refund me and then the manager Emi called me asking me who said they didn’t have t-shirts. I explained it was someone in the office at the desk. After 5 days I reached back out to Emi as we had not been refunded for the t-shirt. He said they did the refund and I should call my credit card company. I did and they have not received a refund from the company. I've followed back up with the manager and he hasn't responded. My son said the lesson was ok but it was not worth all the hassle. I'd recommend finding other options for surf lessons if you are interested.
