Music Zone Rehearsal Studios, located at 16th & Western in Chicago, stands out as one of the largest and most established professional rehearsal facilities in the Midwest, with over sixty thousand square feet of space housing ninety-five rehearsal rooms. Since opening in 1996 with just nine rooms, Music Zone has grown into a vibrant community hub where musicians can rent spaces on a month-to-month basis, offering flexibility and convenience that hourly rentals cannot match. Beyond the physical space, Music Zone fosters a strong sense of community where musicians can meet, collaborate, and support each other’s growth, making it an ideal place for artists to develop their skills and network. However, the space is strictly a professional work environment, with no overnight stays permitted, maintaining a focus on productivity and respect for all tenants.

I’ve had two different rooms over the nine years I have been at TMZ. I had previously been at two other rehearsal spots in Chicago, they will remain nameless. One was as affordable as TMZ but was not safe outside the facility. I caught a guy in my van, window broken, luckily just a nuisance. Some one else got stabbed trying to keep his gear and another time I saw a guy hot wiring a Jeep. The other place was overpriced and not safe outside, in the hallways or in your room. Thorough shenanigans. My current room was bare but that’s how i like it. I have built and installed sound treatment and diffusion. My room sounds fantastic. When I leave I never worry about the safety of my equipment, myself, bandmates or clients. Every now and then a knucklehead will smoke in the hallway and stink up the place for a day, but all things considered it’s just annoying and has been the extent of issues with other renters. Joe and Johnny have always been responsive to any of my questions and they curate an atmosphere where everyone can get in, do your work and be left alone without interference. No place is perfect but I can see myself being here for another 9 years.

Second home for me and mates. The space is a great balance of creative energy but not off the chain and reckless like some spaces. They’ve got it together. Good spot if you’re coming with respect for the community, and to connect with other musicians.

The rooms are so small for what they are charging the owners never turn on the A/C when it’s hot asf and when it’s cold they don’t turn on the heater. Terrible
