Saw somebody’s interesting rendition of “The Nutcracker” at David H. Koch Theater on 12/17/2024. I’d hoped to see more actual ballet and less tomfoolery. The performance fell short of my expectations; I believe the Chamberlain School of Ballet in Plano, TX puts on a far better version of The Nutcracker (child performers) with classic ballet and beautiful costumes. I expected more from NYC Ballet … that’s all.

Midsummer Night's Dream performed by the NYCB never disappoints. Wonderfully exquisite ballet to attend; the costumes and sets are ethereal and dreamy. The dancers' strength, poise, footwork and grace are mesmerizing. 7th time seeing this as it has become somewhat of a summer, multi-generational girls' day in Manhattan. I recommend taking your mothers, daughters and lovers of dance. Purchased late this year and sat in 4th Ring for first time. Positioned high up, despite that it was a beautiful and very engaging angle to watch from. Only complaint at this level: the seats are facing straight ahead, so you have to turn your head and body to watch, which can get uncomfortable. But you have the whole section to your self it seems. I understand now why these tickets were so affordable for this last amazing performance, grateful to have gotten them. We had the best time, especially being of witness to the moving, final performance of Megan LeCrone, and the last performance of the conductor as well. The music makes the performance equally es inspiring was the magical score that permeates the theater. Midsummer Night's Dream is absorbing to the senses. NYCB carries on its' excellence!

This would have been 5 out of 5...BUT... My wife and I really enjoyed the the new combinations performance on february 2nd at the David Koch theater... with the exception of the modern piece, variations. While the ballerinas were superb performers, the clashing and jarring of door hinge sounds and water drop sounds were abysmal. The noises that were used for the choreograph left zero inspiration. The combination of noises could have been integrated into sounds of daily life to give the viewer and opportunity to follow the experience, instead of just hearing random noise. The ballerinas performances were the only saving grace of the variations segment.... everything else in that performance was magical, and everything that I dreamt of seeing when booking the tickets. So 4 out of 5
